This week the Bedford Museum and Genealogical Library continues to honor those that are making history today.

Bedford is proud of Anthony Poindexter  who has been Defensive Backs Coach for the football team at the University of Virginia for eight years. He was raised in Forest and attended elementary school at New London Academy. He graduated from Jefferson Forest High School and majored in anthropology at University of Virginia, graduating in 1999.

Anthony has always been a great athlete contributing to two state championships while attending Jefferson Forest. When I asked Anthony to what he attributed his success, his immediate response was “my parents.” John and Lois Poindexter obviously did a great job of raising their boys as Anthony’s brother John is head coach at Northumberland High School in Heathsville Virginia. Anthony also attributed a lot of his success to Grandma Scott and Grandma Louise.

Anthony’s advice to the young people was: maintain the values taught by your parents, realize that any meaningful achievement will require hard work, get your education and your name is the most important thing you have, guard it.

Anthony wanted all to know about his family — wife Kim and daughters Morocca age 9, Chloe age 2 and his son A. J. age 7.  He also said what he learned at church help mold him. Although he lives in another city, he considers St. Paul Baptist his spiritual home. If you see any of the Poindexter family, thank them for what they have contributed to Bedford and Black History.
