Bedford City Council has decided it wants the Virginia Department of Transportation to make improvements to US 460, at the intersection of Ole Turnpike Drive and Woodhaven Drive its top priority in the city.

During its meeting Tuesday, Council adopted a resolution directing VDOT to give the 460 West project the highest priority over all other projects that may be funded by VDOT within the city limits.
The change would direct funds set aside for a project on Burks Hill Road to be utilized for the 460 project instead. During Tuesday’s meeting, Assistant City Manager Bart Warner told council that current transportation funding would not allow for the funding of both projects, but could be combined so one could be completed.
Also on Tuesday a resolution was adopted by Council with the intent to borrow funds to finance the upgrade of the Stoney Creek Reservoir in order to meet current Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation criteria for a Class I structure.
