A 24-year-old Bedford man pleaded guilty to having sexual contact with a girl who was 14 years old at the time of the offense.
Duston Glynn Holdren entered his plea Tuesday in Bedford County Circuit Court to the felony count of carnal knowledge for an incident that occurred in November 2010. A second charge was set aside and not prosecuted.
According to Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Wes Nance, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of the charge earlier this year by the victim’s parents. The family, which lives out of town, had been in the county to attend a funeral.
Bedford County Circuit Court Judge James Updike sentenced Holdren to four years of jail time, with all but six months of the sentence suspended. Holdren is scheduled to report to jail Dec. 5.
He will be on five years of good behavior, will have three years of supervised probation after his release from jail and will have to register as a sex offender. Holdren was also ordered to not have any contact with the victim in the case.
According to Nance, the victim and her family agreed with the plea agreement.
