Blues and BBQ

On Saturday April 19, Centertown Bedford came alive with the soulful sounds that only Blues Music can create in our Farmer’s Market.

Top blues performers, Minus John, Eli Cook & Band, Billy Sutton & Roadhouse entertained the crowd in the rain all night. Keith Campbell did a great job as emcee and filling in for our first musician who could not attend.

Speaking of rain, it is always disappointing to put so much effort into planning an event for a sunny beautiful day, only to have rain. I know how important it is to have rain at this point so I decided early in the day it will be what it is and we will make the best of it in the rain.

It was obvious that the rain was not going to stop the 600 attendees enjoy an afternoon and evening filled with Blues and BBQ. It is also obvious that without our committed sponsors the event would not have been so successful.

I would like to personally thank L. E. Lichford, Hickory Hill Vineyards, The Electric Company, Al DeWeese Improvements, Phil Fenton- Allstate Insurance Bedford, Suntrust Bank, Longwood Industries and FNB Bank for their generosity to our great community.

The Backyard BBQ competition was a highlight again this year with the People's Choice vote by attendees. Seven judges carefully judged in all categories for a winner! Special thanks to all the judges. The Bedford Ruritans cooked their famous Pork BBQ the entire night before and into the day. Thank you to Marko Galbreath and his wife Becky for taking some great pictures of our event.

Special thanks to our artist, Katie Overby from Forest Middle School for doing such a great job designing the annual BBQ T-shirt. The crowd loved them and we have only a few left.

It is of course my honor to thank the volunteers that commit to helping us with our Centertown events. It is their dedication that gave Bedford Main Street the award for over 40,000 hours from volunteers since 1997.

Again, thank you to all of our participants for making Bedford Blues and BBQ a success in the rain!
