The Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce held a press conference, Friday, to promote Small Business Saturday, which takes place on Nov. 26.

Susan Martin, the president of the Chamber, urged people to come out the Saturday after Thanksgiving and do some of their Christmas shopping at local small businesses.
Martin said that, according to the U. S. Small Business Administration, half of America’s workers either own or work for a small business.
“Small Business Saturday is an opportunity to show our support for our friends and neighbors who throughout the year are growing our local economy, as well as supporting many local initiatives and organizations,” Martin said.
Martin said this Nov. 26 marks the seventh annual Small Business Saturday.
The chamber is sponsoring a Small Business Selfie Event this year. Take a selfie while shopping at a local small business and post it on social media with #BACClocal. You can take a selfie at every store you visit and post it. Each selfie is an entry for a prize drawing.
Patronizing local small businesses shouldn’t be something people do just once a year.
“Shopping locally with small business has a huge impact on our local economy,” Martin said. “Small businesses have generated two out of every three net jobs over the past 15 years and employ over half of all private sector employees.”
