Health Walk

The Oak Grove Baptist Church located in Forest, will have a Health Walk on Saturday Aug. 6. The walk will take place between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11a.m. at Brookhill Wesleyan Church located at 1043 Cifax Rd in Forest.  Anyone interested in participating must contact Katherine Jones at 434-610-4292 before Saturday, July 30 to sign up and for additional information. The Pastor is Aaron Payne.


Armor of God VBS

Precept Schools of Virginia presents "Armor of God" Vacation Bible School for rising 1st - 5th graders from August 1 - 5, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at The Smith House - 1334 Longwood Ave. Snack provided. Register ASAP at www.preceptschoolsva.org.



First Baptist Church of Goode will be having their three day revival starting at 7 p.m. with prayer and devotion on:

Aug. 8 with the Rev. Drew of St. John Baptist Church

Aug. 9 with the Rev. Harland Brown of St. Paul Baptist Church

Aug. 10 with the Rev. Thomas Harper of Alta Grove Baptist Church.


VBS at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Bedford

August 7-10, Vacation Bible School, “Growing With God”, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 314 North Bridge Street, Bedford. Growing With God will be held evenings beginning Sunday, August 7 continuing through Wednesday, August 10. Each evening will include dinner and then a program for all ages, children and adults. There will be music, drama, games and much more. Sign up early by contacting the Church Office at (540) 586-9582 for a registration form. When you register, indicate if you would like infant care for this event.


Annual women's conference

Woman to Woman Ministries will be having its annual conference on August 3-5 at Family Life Christian Church International in Lynchburg. Host and founder is Pastor Sharon McQueen. Theme for this year is “Women of Change.” This event is free. There will be day and evening sessions and childcare will be provided for $3 per child per session. Homecoming, revival services

The Oak Grove Baptist Church in Forest will be having Homecoming on Sunday, August 14.The speaker for the 11 a.m. service will be the Pastor Aaron Payne.  Preaching the afternoon service will be the Rev. William Glover, pastor of the Silver Grove Baptist Church located in Rustburg along with his Men’s chorus and congregation.

Revival service will begin Wednesday night, August 17 , through Friday, August 19. Prayer and Praise service will begin at 7 p.m. and worship service at 7:30 p.m. The guest preacher for the week will be the Rev. Gary Lee, pastor of the Scott Zion Baptist Church in Madison Heights. Music will be rendered by different choirs each night.

Outdoor Gospel Sing

Faith Life Baptist Church will have an Outdoor Gospel Sing on Friday, Aug. 5, starting at 6 p.m. It will be held rain or shine. There will be special singing by different groups such as Peter Walker, Don, Linda & Friends, Lisa Hackett, Glory Bound Trio, Tommy Barlow, Charles Surrett, and New Grace. Bring your own lawn chair. Food and refreshments by Faith Life. Location: off Route 460 and north on Route 607, two blocks on left in Montvale. Johnny Basham, pastor.


Saturday, Aug. 6


One Day VBS – Beach Blast

Mountain View Union Church will hold a 1 day VBS on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Church ( Miller Lane behind Moose Lodge).

          The theme will be "Beach Blast" and there will be classes for all ages from toddler to adult. There will be a bible class, crafts, games and lunch provided. You must register by July 30 for this 1 day VBS. To register or for more info call  540-587-9012. 


Chestnut Hill VBS

Chestnut Hill Freewill Baptist Church, located at 13771 Lee Jackson Hwy Big Island. Vacation Bible School. August 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.


Ernie Dawson and Heirline concert

Ernie Dawson and "Heirline" will be in concert at Cool Spring P.H. Church, Buffalo Run, Thaxton, on Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. The youth will be selling hot dogs at 5 p.m. For more information, call (540) 587-0400 or 586-4628. Pastor is Larry G. Myers.

Woman's Day

On Sunday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m. Woman's Day will be observed at the Poplar Spring Baptist Church in Goode. Evangelist Gail Drew of Saint John Baptist Church, Forest will be the guest along with the Saint John choir usher and congregation.

Evangelist Gail Drew is a native of San Antonio, Texas. She is the daughter of the late Deacon William and Missionary L.E. Graves. She has been residing in this area almost 11 years. Central Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Joseph A. Keaton licensed Gail Drew to preach and teach the Gospel in 2004. She is a faithful and devoted wife to her husband the Rev. Dwayne Drew, pastor of Saint John Baptist Church, Forest, where she also functions as assistant pastor, youth choir director. Sis. Gail is a devoted mother and a certified therapeutic foster parent. She is also a Surrogate parent for the Roanoke City School District, where she represents children in their educational IEP needs.

Evanlelist Gail Drew is attending Ashford University online, studying to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Behavior Science. Gail Drew is also a Licensed Real Estate Agent for the state of Virginia.

She feels that God has called her to preach the gospel to all, but especially to the women.



On Sunday, Aug. 7, there will be Homecoming Services at the Promise Land Baptist Church of Moneta. The 11 a.m. service will be by Pastor Carl Anderson. Lunch will be served. The 3 p.m. service will be by the Rev. Cedric Malone, pastor of the Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church and church family from Roanoke.


Pastor anniversary

On Aug. 7, First Baptist Church of Goode will be celebrating the Rev. William Watson's 10 year Pastor's Anniversary at 3 p.m. The Rev. Terry Echols, choir and congregation of Forest level Baptist Church of Forest will be tending the evening service.


Monday, Aug. 8


Bedford Aglow Community Lighthouse

The Bedford Aglow Community Lighthouse, an interdenominational Christian organization, will meet on Monday, August 8, at the Liberty Station Restaurant in Bedford. The guest speaker will be Lindsay Lewis of Forest and a Liberty University student, who just returned from India. The meeting will start with dinner being served at 6:20 p.m.; the cost is $10. Reservations can be made by calling Anna-Laura at 587-0187. Extra seating will be available at 7:15 p.m. for those unable to arrive in time for dinner. Men are welcome and encouraged to join in an evening of sharing and fellowship.


Saturday, Aug. 13


Vacation Bible School

There will be a One-Day Vacation Bible School on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a cook-out for the children and their parents at 5 p.m. It will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1074 Circle K Road, Montvale. Age group is pre-K through 6th grade. The theme will be Beach Blast with water slide and balloon man. Directions: from Montvale - 2 miles east on 460, brick church on left of the hill; from Bedford - 10 miles west on 460, brick church on the right on the hill. The United Voices

On Saturday, August 13 at 4 p.m. The United Voices will be in concert at the First Baptist Church, South Lynchburg on Tazewell Avenue.


Sunday, Aug. 14



Annual Homecoming will be Aug. 14 at Otterville Baptist Church. The Rev. M.D. Mays will conduct the 11:15 a.m. service. The Rev. Harland Brown and St. Paul Baptist Church will be the guests for the 3 p.m. service. Lunch will be served immediately after the morning service.


Gospel singing

The Staunton River Boys will be singing at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Route 24, 17440 Wyatts Way, Huddleston/Evington, on Sunday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. A love offering will be taken.


Pastor's Aide Ministry anniversary
On Sunday, August 14 the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, Forest,  Pastor's Aide Ministry will be having its anniversary at 3:30 p.m. and the guest for that service will be Elder Percy Powell and his church family from the Crown of Glory Ministries from Roanoke.


Sunday, Aug. 21


Family & Friends Day

Mt. Plain Baptist Church, 3746 Johnson Mountain Rd., Evington, will celebrate Family & Friends Day, Sunday, Aug. 21, a day full of fun with Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. a short worship service at 11 a.m. with Pastor C.E. Rhodes, Sr., preaching. There will be games available for all ages, the best of best competitions, horseshoe, three-on-three basketball, volleyball, dunking booth, bouncer, puzzles mania, egg toss, water balloon race, and new this year will be the Wii competition and corn toss.
