Community Bible Study

 On Wednesday, September 5, Smith Mountain Lake Community Bible Study will begin a 30-week study of Amos & Isaiah.   CBS welcomes men, women, and children (infants through home-schooled 6th graders) from all backgrounds and levels of Bible knowledge. Revival Services at Poplar Spring Baptist

The annual Revival Services at Poplar Spring Baptist Church will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 5 and go through Friday, Sept. 7. Prayer and Praise service will begin at 7 p.m. each evening and Revival services will begin at 7:30 p.m. with different minister and choirs rendering the service each night. On Wednesday night the Rev. Cory E. Taylor, pastor of Oakmulgee Baptist Church of Bedford will be the guest speaker accompanied by his Choir. On Thursday night, the Rev. Edward Jones, pastor of Bolling Hill Baptist Church, Madison Heights, will be the guest speaker accompanied by his choir. On Friday, Elder Samuel E. Reed Creek Revival services

Reed Creek Baptist Church, Big Island, will have its Revival Wednesday, Aug. 22 – Friday, Aug. 24, 7 p.m. each night with the Rev. Thomas Harper and different choirs from the area.


Mt. Rock Baptist Church Homecoming, Revival

The Mt. Rock Baptist Church is having its annual Homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 26. The Rev. Thomas Harper of Roanoke will be the guest speaker for the 11 a.m. worship service. The Rev. Terry Echols and his church family and choir of Forest Level Baptist Church will be the guest speaker for the afternoon worship service at 3 p.m. Lunch will be served following the morning service. Revival service will begin on Monday night, Aug. 27, and be held through Wednesday, Aug. 29. Prayer and Praise service will begin at 7 p.m. and worship service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Guest preachers for the week will be as follows: Monday, the Rev. Artemus Dixon, pastor of New Dearington Baptist Church, guest choir, The Disciples Male Chorus of Faith Assembly of Altavista; Tuesday, the Rev. Carl Anderson, pastor of Promise Land Baptist Church, guest choir, Rivermont Baptist Church Male Chorus of Lynchburg; Wednesday, the Rev. Gary Lee, pastor of Scott Zion Baptist Church and his choir of Madison Heights.

Sons' of Faith Gospel Singers

The Sons' of Faith Gospel Singers of Rocky Mount will be in concert on Saturday, Aug. 25, 6 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 777 Shiloh Church Rd., Bedford.


Shooting for Jesus

Shooting for Jesus will be held Saturday, Aug. 25. The event is a free, not-for-profit 3-D bow shoot. Free food and drinks. Schedule: 8-10 a.m., crossbow shooters; 10:30 a.m. - 3 p.m., bow shooters. There will be shooting classes for 6-9 year olds, 10-13 year olds, 14-17 year olds, and for men and women 18 years old and up. The event will be held at Spring Lake 3D Range, 1051 Spring Lake Farm Rd., Moneta. Prizes donated by Matthews Bows, Rage Broadheads, Lumenok, Buck Knives, Wildlife Research Center, Knight & Hale, Roadside Sporting Goods, Whitetail Outfitters, Booth's Taxidermy and Thomas Naumann. New Life Baptist Church, in Bedford, will host Central Virginia Spiritual Worker in concert on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 4 p.m. New Life Baptist will have Ladies in Hats; Men in Suits.


AWANA Kick-off party

Morgans Baptist Church is having its AWANA Kick-off party, "Waterpalooza," on Sunday, August 26 from 5:30-7 p.m. Have a great time playing water games, eating food, & registering for AWANA Club for the year. Wear a T-shirt over your bathing suit & bring a towel! Rain? They'll play inside games. The AWANA program is a fun-filled night of high energy games, Bible messages, and learning God's Word for children age 3 years (by September 30) through 8th grade and are held Sunday nights from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. throughout the school year. Homecoming and Pastor Appreciation

The Katinas, and Evangelist Greg Laurie

Calvary Chapel Lynchburg is a local host for Harvest America, a nationwide event coming August 26. Evangelist Greg Laurie will address audiences all across the United States via satellite tv, Web streaming and radio broadcasts. The event begins at 7 p.m. with music provided by the Katinas at Calvary Chapel Lynchburg at 742 Leesville Road, followed by Greg Laurie’s message via satellite video. Sharon Missionary Baptist Church, Big Island, will have its annual Missionary Program on Sunday, Aug. 26, at 3 p.m. The Rev. Mary Johnson from the Way of the Cross Ministry, Lynchburg, will be the guest speaker; Western Light Baptist Church choir will bring the music.

The Dixie Echoes Quartet will be in concert at Halesford Baptist Church on August 31 at 7 p.m.  for an evening of Southern Gospel Music.

Gospel Sing

A Gospel Sing will be held Sept. 2 at 6 p.m. at Coolspring Pentecostal Holiness Church. The “Easter Brothers” will be at the church to minister in song. This will be at the church pavilion, 3453 Buffalo Run, Thaxton. Bring your own lawn chair.


Homecoming Day

Poplar Spring Baptist Church, Goode, will celebrate its Annual Homecoming Day on Sunday, Sept. 2. The Rev. Dr. Herman J. Robertson, pastor of Poplar Spring Baptist Church, will be the speaker for the 11 a.m. service with music rendered by the Poplar Spring Gospel Chorus. Dinner will be served immediately after the morning service. The Rev. Russell E. Lee Sr., pastor of Chapel Grove Baptist Church, Evington, will be the speaker for the afternoon service beginning at 3 p.m., accompanied by his Gospel Choir of Chapel Grove Baptist Church. Prayer and Praise service will begin at 2:30 p.m.

Homecoming Day At Lighthouse Free Will Baptist Church

Lighthouse Free Will Baptist Church has set September 9 as its Homecoming Sunday.  Special guests speakers will include the Rev. J. David Welch, Jr., pastor for New Freedom Free Will Baptist Church in Turkey, N.C., and the Rev. Phil Stevens, itinerant preacher and pastor for Central Virginia.

Worship will begin at 10 a.m. in lieu of Sunday School and continue through the 11 a.m. hour. A potluck fellowship meal will follow at noon. Evening services are cancelled. The theme is from 1 Corinthians 3:10-11.


Aloha Sunday

Want to  enjoy an old fashioned church picnic with a Hawaiian twist? Join the fun at Mountain View United Methodist Church, 1077 Viewpoint Lane in Forest on September 9 . The Aloha Sunday  begins with worship at 10 a.m. followed by the picnic lunch about 11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.  Ham and fried chicken will be provided along with side dishes and desserts with an Hawaiian flair. Youth Tent Revival

A Youth Tent Revival will be held Oct. 20 at Mentow Baptist Church, 3282 Mentow Dr., Huddleston, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The event will kick off with a weenie roast followed with praise and worship with band Pier 19. The keynote speaker will be Christopher Haymes from Boling Springs, N.C.
