Christmas activities at Bethlehem United Methodist Church

CHILDREN/YOUTH PLAY – Sunday, December 18 at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services.

CHRISTMAS EVE CANDLELIGHT SERVICE – Saturday, December 24 at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. (Communion at 10 p.m.); nursery at 7 p.m. service.

CHRISTMAS DAY SERVICE – One Service at 10:30 a.m.; No Sunday School.

Living Nativity
Halesford Baptist Church in Wirtz, (beside Booker T. Washington Monument) will be having a Living Nativity from Thursday, December 22 through Christmas Eve, 6-8 p.m. This includes live animals, carolers and free hot chocolate to all. A Christmas Eve communion service will be held at 8 p.m. inside the church.


Mentow Baptist Church December special services, events

Mentow Baptist Church, Huddleston, will have a worship service of "Songs of the Season" on Sunday, December 18, at 10:30 a.m.  This will be preceded by a full breakfast at 8:45 and Sunday School at 9:30.  The evening of December 18, 6 p.m., there will be a community-wide candlelight/communion service.  The annual Christmas social will be held after the service.

The Women on Mission will meet at 9 a.m. at the church on Friday, December 16, to deliver cakes throughout the community.  They will then meet at noon at the Duchess of Bedford Bakery & Cafe for lunch.  From there, the women will go to the Bedford County Nursing Home for the annual birthday/Christmas party at 2 p.m. 

The Women on Mission and spouses will meet at the home of Esther Woodford on Tuesday, December 20, 7 p.m., for their December meeting and annual Christmas fellowship.

On Wednesday evening, December 21, Christmas carolers will leave the church at 6 p.m. for singing and delivering fruit trays to the elderly and shut-ins.  Everyone will return to the church for a Pizza Party, around 8 p.m. This is sponsored by the Youth, but all ages are invited.

Savior of the Nations, Come, an Advent/Christmas Hymn Festival

Savior of the Nations, Come, an Advent/Christmas Hymn Festival by Michael Burkhardt will be presented by the Music Departments of Bedford Baptist Church and Main Street United Methodist Church on December 17 and 18 at 7 p.m. at Bedford Baptist Church. Combined choirs from both churches will be conducted by Susan Batten Bell, minister of music-Bedford Baptist and will be accompanied on the organ by Kenneth Taggart, minister of music-Main Street United Methodist. The Instrumental Ensemble from Bedford Baptist and the Handbell Choir from Main Street United Methodist will also accompany on several of the selections. The public is invited to attend this community program of beautiful sacred Christmas music.


Lighthouse F.W.B.C. Christmas events

Lighthouse Free Will Baptist Church will hold a Silent Lord's Supper Service on Christmas Day at 11 a.m.  This unique service will allow you to come and go as you please. Suggested Bible readings will be provided as you sit and silently meditate and pray.  Christmas music will be played in the background.  Pastor Ross will serve you the Lord's Supper at any point you wish.  Sunday School and evening worship will be cancelled.  Bring the entire family.  Lighthouse is located across from Liberty Lake Park at 942 Burks Hill Road.  Visit us at www.lighthousefwbc.com.  Call 540-587-8962 or email edrynn@verizon.net for more info. Peaks View Christian Church, 1604 Moneta Road, Bedford, VA  24523;  phone 586-0333. Sunday School 9:30 a.m.; worship  10:30 a.m.; Wednesday night, prayer time  6:25 and Bible Study  7 p.m. Women's Bible Class, 7 p.m. Christmas Program, Dec. 18 at 10:30 a.m., carry in dinner to follow program. Christmas Eve Communion Service Dec. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Regular church services on Christmas Day.


Advent services at Fort Hill UMC

Fort Hill United Methodist Church will hold its annual Midweek Community Advent services on December 7, 14, and 21. Prelude begins at 11:45 a.m., service at noon, with lunch served each week immediately following the service.

This year’s schedule of speakers and music are:

December 14: Guest Minister, the Rev. Philip M. Waltz, Fort Hill United Methodist Church. Guest musicians, Ann Key, violinist, Lynchburg College/Fort Hill United Methodist Church, Jae Kelly, organist, Court Street United Methodist Church.

December 21: Guest Minister, the Rev. George Hatmaker, Mead Memorial United Methodist Church. Guest organist, Roger Dowdy, Lake Junaluska Conference & Retreat Center. Guest soloist, Daryl Knott, mezzo-soprano, Fort Hill United Methodist Church.

The Advent services are free and open to the public. Lunch will be served each week immediately after the service for a suggested donation of $5 per person.

Christmas 'Then and Now'

The Olive Branch Baptist Church will present a skit entitled Christmas 'Then and Now,' on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. The Rev. Alvin E. Smith Pastor. The church is located at the corner of Flint Hill and Joppa Mill Road.


Bethany United Methodist Church Cantata

Bethany United Methodist Church choir will perform the cantata “Mary, Did You Know?” Sunday, Dec. 18 at 3 p.m. Bethany Church is located on Bethany Church Circle in Forest behind Virginia Memorial Park. Harp music will precede the cantata.


Christmas Celebration

Sunday, December 18. Morgans Baptist Church is having their AWANA program this Sunday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for preschoolers (age 3) through eighth grade. This week's theme is Christmas Celebration.   Come to club for handbook time and stay the Christmas play and party to follow. Parents are encouraged stay for the events and enjoy some pre-party treats while clubbers are in handbook time.  If you would like to join the club, come by on Sunday or contact the church at 297-4959.

Evington United Methodist Church will present its 2011 Christmas Program on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 6 p.m.


Cool Spring Presbyterian Church Christmas Play

Diamond Hill Baptist Church will present its annual Christmas Play on Dec. 18, 6 p.m. The church is located at 3541 Horseshoe Bend Road, Moneta. Refreshments in the Family Life Center following the play.
