Chestnut Hill Free Will Baptist benefit

Chestnut Hill Free Will Baptist Church will have a benefit singing with Smokey Wilson on March 10. Other local gospel singers will be joining for a Benefit Singing to help the Lee family. With one child who underwent kidney surgery and another who had back surgery during 2011, the medical bills have piled up.

Sedalia Baptist Women’s Conference 2012

Sisters of Grace, the Sedalia Baptist Women’s Ministry, will present its fifth annual Women’s Conference, “Fruitburst! Living Life Filled with the Fruit of the Spirit,” on Saturday, March 10 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Julie Nash will be sharing and Shana Canada will be ministering with music.

Julie is a wife and mother of four children. She works full time as the Assistant Director of the LCA Early Learning Center. She is active with the Women’s Ministry at Thomas Road Baptist Church and leads a Tuesday night Bible study for professional women in her community. She has been on many missions trips including one last month to Guatemala.

Shana was born and raised in Appomattox is married and has three children. She has always pursued her love of music as a Christian Singer and in recent years become a Nashville published songwriter. This past year, Shana and her band led worship at the Extraordinary Women’s Conference overflow at Thomas Road Baptist Church. She is an active member of Liberty Baptist Church and is called to Women’s Ministries, sharing her testimony whenever and wherever God presents the opportunity.

Lenten Luncheon series

The Bedford County Ministerial Association's annual Lenten Luncheon series will begin on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22 in the fellowship hall of Main Street United Methodist Church. The services will be held each Wednesday from 12-12:55 p.m. Each service will feature a soup and sandwich luncheon followed by music and a speaker. Donations are accepted but not required. This year's theme is The Eight Questions of the Last Week. Speakers include:

March 7- the Rev. Danny Holdren, Liberty Cowboy Church, "Surely not I Lord?" (Mt.26:17-25)

March 14- Father Salvador Anonuevo, Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, "Are you asleep?" (Mt. 14:32-42)

March 21- the Rev. Lorenzo Kitt, Washington Street Baptist Church, "What shall I do with Jesus?" (Mt. 27:15-23)

March 28 – the Rev. John Salley, Bedford Presbyterian Church, "What is truth?" (John 18: 33-38)

April 4 - the Rev. David Whitehurst, Word of Life Evangelical Church, "Why have you forsaken Me?" (Mt. 27:45-46)

Good Friday services will be held Friday April 6 at Washington Street Baptist from noon-1 p.m. with no meal. The theme that day will be "Who will roll the stone away?" (Mk. 16:1-3)

Exercise classes

National Bubble Gum Week

Sunday, March 11, Morgans Baptist Church is having its AWANA program this Sunday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for preschoolers (age 3) through eighth grade. This week's theme is National Bubble Gum Week Night. Say verses for bubble gum. If you would like to join the club, come by on Sunday or contact the church at 297-4959.

Annual Men's Day

The men of Washington Street Baptist Church, where the Rev. Henry A. Henderson is the pastor, will be observing their Annual Men's Day on Sunday, March 11. Pastor Jay Logan of Destiny Christian Fellowship of Altavista will be the guest preacher. He will deliver the 11 a.m. message. The Men's Chorus of Washington Street Baptist Church will render the music.

Benefit concert

Staunton Baptist Church presents a Benefit Concert for The Agape Center in Moneta. Date: March 16, starting at 7 p.m. Gospel music by local artist. A love offering will be taken with all proceeds going to the Agape Center. Location: 15267 Smith Mtn Lake Pkwy Huddleston. Call 540-493-9391.

Sunday, March 18

Lenten Hymnfest Celebration

The Chancel Choir and Carillon Bells from Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Moneta will participate in a Lenten Hymnfest Celebration to be held at the Henry Fork Service Center in Rocky Mount on Sunday, March 18 at 3 p.m.

Other area musical groups participating include Fieldale United Methodist and Mt. Bethel United Methodist in Fieldale, the Henry Fork Service Center, and the Macedonia Gospel Chorus from Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Soloists from area churches will also be featured.

The public is invited to the Hymnfest. Parking will be available at the Living Waters Church of God on Doe Run Road, with shuttles to the Henry Fork Service Center. A free-will offering for the Henry Fork Service Center will be taken. Refreshments will be served.

Henry Fork Center is located at 71 Sandridge Road, Rocky Mount.

Saturday, March 31

Southern gospel sing

Mentow Baptist Church, Huddleston, will have a community-wide old-fashioned/Southern gospel sing on Saturday, March 31, at 5:30 p.m., featuring The Mentow Quartet and The Steve Hackworth Family & Friends. A pancake supper will follow the program.  Everyone is invited.

Mentow is located at the intersection of Routes 43 (Leesville Road) and 628 (Mentow Drive).  The Rev. Gregory L. Soult is pastor.

Mentow is affiliated with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, the Baptist General Association of Virginia, and the Strawberry Baptist Association.
