As Bedford City Council works through the upcoming budget proposal, several city programs are already being affected. And so might city residents’ pocket books. Council is considering raising both personal property and real estate taxes.
During a work session last week, council agreed to advertise for the possibility of raising the real estate tax rate 5 cents from the current 81 cents per $100 of assessed value, along with a 26-cent increase to the personal property tax rate. Council is also considering raising the tax on cigarettes 10 cents.
