Last fall, Liberty High School's ninth grade physical education classes started a pilot program with the Bedford Area YMCA.
The idea, according to Lori Mattson, one of Liberty's physical education teachers, is to give students a chance to be exposed to activities they don't get in regular PE classes. One goal is to reach students who don't like PE.
The program used YMCA facilities, including the swimming pool. The high school PE classes joined the Y in the Fit for Life Program, which promotes activities that support lifetime fitness.
