Delegate Kathy J. Byron (R-Bedford County) celebrated a victory this evening, winning her ninth term representing the 22nd District in the Virginia General Assembly. At a gathering of supporters at the Republican Victory Center on Leesville Road in Lynchburg, Byron delivered the following remarks:
“I am thankful, honored, and humbled by the support I have received from the voters of the 22nd District in today’s election. I ran a positive, issues-based campaign, and the people have responded with their votes and their confidence.
“We took my record of accomplishment on jobs and workforce development, my commitment to conservative principles, and my respect for traditional values and faith directly to the voters, and they have emphatically said, ‘Kathy, you’re doing a great job; keep on doing it.’ And, that is exactly what I intend to do when the General Assembly convenes in January.
“There are so many to thank for tonight’s result, it’s hard to know where to begin. First and foremost, I’d like to thank the people of the 22nd District for their continued support and confidence. Working for you is what drives me every day, and having met so many of you throughout this campaign, I am inspired by your common sense and your hard work.
“I have been blessed by a wonderful family, who have sacrificed so I can serve and had to endure a lot of the negative campaigning that characterized some on the other side in this contest. I will be eternally grateful for the love and devotion they have shown me and the sacrifices they have made for me.
“My campaign team did an outstanding job. You know, it isn’t always easy to work for someone who expects as much of them as I did during this campaign, but they have done a great job of keeping me on schedule and of ensuring that our ‘trains’ ran on time.
“I would not be standing before you now declaring victory were it not for the scores of dedicated volunteers who took time out of their lives to work on my campaign. Having begun my participation in this process as a volunteer myself, I am always inspired by your commitment and dedication to our principles and values.
“Tonight is a night to celebrate. But we celebrate not only our victory, but the good fortune we have to live in a nation and a commonwealth where the people decide who should lead them. We may not always agree with every decision made by the voters, but we respect their judgment and their willingness to do their duty by participating in elections.
“As I enter my ninth term representing the people of the 22nd District in the House of Delegates, you have my solemn promise that I will never forget those who sent me to Richmond and that I will never waiver from standing up for them and for what is right.
“Thank you, and God bless you.”
