Donate your time: It's priceless

Many non-profit organizations in the area are receiving fewer donations but the needs they endeavor to meet are growing. When you can’t give money, consider time. These groups need support. The information below is provided through the efforts of the Bedford Community Health Foundation and the generosity of The Bedford Bulletin. To submit information for your non-profit group, contact Mary Wiley, Bedford Community Health Foundation, at 586-5292, between 8 a.m. and noon.

The Bedford Humane Society is seeking volunteers to help with community events on Oct. 18 in Huddleston and Nov. 1 in Bedford. Foster homes for homeless animals are always needed. For more information, call 540-586-6100.

Bedford Area Welcome Center will be open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, through Oct. 31. Beginning Nov. 1, it will close at 5 p.m. The Center would like to add to its volunteer pool. Basic computer skills are desired as well as a willingness to work the cash register. Volunteers work in pairs or with a staff member. Contact Rob Jarvis at 587-5681.

Your talent makes a difference at the Bedford Adult Day Care Center. Perform solo or with a group, or conduct a crafts course. Volunteers needed Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Volunteers must be 16 years old or older. Contact Carla Groff or Jennie Cullum at 586-8424.

Bedford Christian Ministries is in need of volunteer receptionists, assistant receptionists, financial aid counselors, and food pantry, clothing closet and household helpers. The need is greater than ever. Computer skills required for receptionists and financial aid counselors. Open Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 9:30 a.m. to noon. Bedford Memorial Hospital seeks volunteers willing to become part of the Hospital’s patient care team. Volunteers will be matched with programs suited to their interests, skills and availability. The Emergency Services Dept of the American Red Cross is in need of volunteers to help during a disaster. You will be trained for our Disaster Action Teams. The teams go to the scene of a disaster within minutes of its occurrence to provide immediate emergency services to the disaster victims and emergency workers. You will also be in the National Database to allow you to help nationally. All training is free. Especially needed are nurses and mental health professionals.
