A fire early this afternoon at a residence along Virginia Byway, Route 43, about seven miles south of Bedford destroyed a home and has had the road shut down for several hours. The call for the fire at 8681 Virginia Byway came in around noon today (Monday) and units from Bedford, Moneta, Forest, Huddleston, Stewartsville and Saunders responded. Wind and the contents of the home have made it difficult for the firefighters to totally extinguish the fire. Smoke from the fire blew across Route 43, hindering visibility. Water was having to be tanked in to fight the fire.
