Five residents in District 3 have applied to fill the Bedford County School Board seat left open when Brad Whorley resigned from the board earlier this year.
Deadline for applications was Monday. Those submitting applications included: Jean McKeague of Forest; Dennis Groenke Sr. of Bedford; Eric Thompson of Bedford; Pete Parziale of Forest; and John Hicks of Evington.
Interviews of the candidates are scheduled for today, Wednesday, April 18, 6 p.m. at the new school board conference center, located at the former Bridge School Alternative Center. Those interviews will be held in open session and discussion of the candidates will be held by the board in closed session. Board members are expected to vote in open session on appointing the new board member on Wednesday following the interviews and discussion of the candidates.
The candidate, selected by the school board, will begin serving after formal installation and will serve until a special election is held for the seat in November.
