William Byrd caught a very bad break in its first offensive series at Staunton River: Senior quarterback John Conner went down in a heap with what appeared to be an ACL injury.
Absent their signal caller, whom Staunton River Head Coach Rick Witt termed “a super, super young man,” the Terriers reverted to a ground-only approach. The flightless Byrds looked more like a runaway herd of mustangs, churning out close to 500 yards in their 35-12 victory over homestanding Staunton River.
