Forest Fire Department to hold first fundraiser of the year

    January was a very busy month for Forest Vol. Fire Department.
    The department answered 54 calls for service during the month with an average of an hour spent on each call. The new officers have been installed and are hard at work on their various assignments.
    The new officers are as follows: Chief-Monty Coleman, Deputy Chief-Steven Evans, Assistant Chief-Matt Eggleston, Captain-Bryan Byrd, Captain-Joel Starnes, Lieutenant-Ryan Burnette, Lieutenant-Ryan Welsh, Safety Officer-Jaye Eggelston, President-Craig Brown, Vice President-Phil Gordon, Secretary-Brad Ellis, Treasurer-Don Bush, EMS Supply Officer-David Grizzard, Training Officer-Chuck Evans.
    Also in January the department had its annual awards banquet honoring several individuals: Scott Burnette-Firefighter of the Year, David Grizzard-Most Improved Firefighter, Jeff Fariss-Rookie of the Year, Joel Damiani-5 Year Service Award, Craig Brown & Ryan Welsh-15 Year Service Award, Todd Styles-20 Year Service Award & Lifetime Membership, Monty Coleman-25 Year Service Award, Reid Harris-35 Year Service Award.
    The department has numerous projects that are in need of funds this year including replacing the out-of-date SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus), $250,000, and finishing the new station- $500,000. The first fundraiser of the year will be a Brunswick Stew on Saturday, Feburary 15 from noon-3 p.m. at the firehouse, 1645 Thomas Jefferson Road.
