The Forest man who claimed he was shot outside his home last Thursday has now been charged with filing a false report.

Last Thursday, May 26, the 20-year-old Bedford County man reported that he had been shot by an unknown assailant at his residence on Mays Mill Rd in Forest. Area schools and businesses were placed on lockdown and numerous local and federal law officers responded to the area to attempt to find a suspect who had reportedly fled the scene on foot.

On Wednesday, June 1, the victim of the shooting was charged by the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office with filing a false police report and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Marshall Lee Patterson surrendered himself to Sheriff’s Office Investigators after the investigation into the shooting developed serious discrepancies in Patterson’s report, a report from the Sheriff's Office stated. The Sheriff’s Office is not looking for any additional suspects related to this incident.

Patterson is being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority in Bedford without a bond, awaiting arraignment on these charges.
