Last week, the Bush administration decided to forgo taking unilateral action against Russia for its war with Georgia. In doing this, President Bush wisely chose to follow the softer approach advocated by Germany and some of our other European allies.
Acting unilaterally would have been a very bad idea. As Secretary of Defense Robert Gates pointed out, we could be the ones who will be isolated if we act precipitously.
