Bedford City Councilman Jeffrey B. Hubbard has resigned from council because his family has moved outside the city limits.
Hubbard’s resignation became effective Aug. 17. In his letter of resignation to Mayor W.D. “Skip” Tharp, Hubbard expressed his “profound regret” for the necessity of this action. “I believe it is in the best interests of my family, the city and the goal of efficient and transparent government that I take this step,” he wrote.
City Council is expected to make an interim appointment to fill the two years remaining of Hubbard’s unexpired term. Details of that process were to be discussed during Tuesday’s council meeting.
"We certainly are sorry to lose Jeff off of council,” stated Tharp. “He’s been a very studied member of council. ... We’re going to miss him tremendously. You couldn’t ask for a better council person.”
Tharp expected a timeline of the appointment process to be approved Tuesday by council.
“He’ll be missed,” City Manager Charles Kolakowski said of losing Hubbard off council. He added, however, that Hubbard will maintain his business in the city and will remain involved.
“We thank him for his service,” Kolakowski said.
