Investigation leads to closing of Wakefield Inn

The Bedford County Sheriff?s Office with the assistance of the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control conducted a five month long joint investigation involving criminal charges against designated managers of ABC licensed businesses in Bedford County.

The investigation led to numerous criminal indictments against ABC managers at the Sky Mart Store located at 7865 Jordontown Road, Vinton, and the Wakefield Inn located at 10190 Stewartsville Road, Vinton.

As a result of this investigation the owner of the Wakefield Inn has surrendered his ABC license and closed for business, according to Major Ricky Gardner of the Bedford County Sheriff's Office.

Gardner said that on Jan. 25 a Bedford County Special Grand Jury handed down 19 indictments on eight individuals for distribution of narcotics and related offenses. Those individuals were arrested between Thursday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 2.

The following four people were indicted on 11 counts of distribution of cocaine at the Wakefield Inn:

? Jamie Sue Wheeler, 41, 2468 Hendricks Store Road, Moneta, indicted on six counts of distribution of Cocaine. Wheeler is out on bond.

? Reggie Lee Jones, 20, 1153 Ballard Circle, Moneta, indicted on three counts of distribution of cocaine. Jones is out on bond.

? Joshua Dale Spangler, 32, 100 Wood Cleft Circle, Huddleston, indicted on one count of distribution of cocaine. Spangler is out on bond.

? Rex Allen Bennett, 34, 1379 Scruggs Road, Wirtz, indicted on one count of distribution of cocaine. Bennett is being held on $50,000 bond at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Bedford.

According to Gardner ABC investigators are still following up on the investigation.

Also indicted in January were two individuals in connection with an on-going narcotics investigation that took place at the Liberty Apartments, dating back to October of last year. Those indictments included:

? Avery Frank Anderson, 45, 1242 Bills Road, Bedford, indicted on one count of distribution of cocaine in a school zone (Liberty High School) and one count of distribution of cocaine. Anderson is out on bond.

? Phyllis Regina Bryant, 42, 1244 Centerville Road, Bedford, indicted on three counts of distribution of cocaine in a school zone (Liberty High School) and three counts of distribution of cocaine. Bryant is being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Bedford.

Also arrested on warrants on Jan. 31 were Andre Lewis Hall, 22, on one count of distribution of cocaine and Quincy Dionne, 33, on one count of distribution of cocaine. Both are out on bond.
