I just received a really unbelievable mailing from Tom Perriello’s office. The mailing, states “This mailing was prepared, published and mailed at taxpayer expense” and quotes a Charlottesville newspaper: “Perriello Wins High Marks in Frugality. Of the 11 congressmen from Virginia, U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello was the most frugal with taxpayer money in 2009...”
One of his own claims for these “high marks” was that he stayed under his office budget by $270,000. I wonder what services he did not perform to save that much money?
Another claim for of his frugality was that he offered to cut his own pay by a magnificent 5 percent. Given his pay is $174,000.00, 5 percent is an empty gesture at $8,400.
Perriello claims he is “giving tax dollars back to Virginians.” and cites almost $3 million in Social Security and $844,000 in Veteran’s benefits. I wonder how Perriello could consider himself responsible for disseminating those funds. Perhaps his office was helpful in getting those funds to the receivers, but he certainly can’t say this has anything to do with frugality.
Chalk up one more nonsensical mailing from Tom Perriello, at taxpayer’s expense. I imagine as he has no positive record to stand on, so he is forced to issue these twisted, incomplete, misleading statements about himself. Perhaps he should promote better schooling in the 5th District as he must think we’re awfully stupid to believe this junk.
Here’s what I believe about Tom Perriello:
• He said Obamacare would improve your access to health care and lower the costs for old people and low income people. Totally untrue. Obamacare will make it more difficult to get health care, care; it will drive MDs out of business and decimate Medicare by removing $500 million from the budget.
• He said Obamacare would not pay for abortions. This is not true. It will pay for abortions.
• He said, many times, that Obamacare would reduce deficits. This is not true; the Congressional Budget Office clearly has come out and stated Obamacare will increase deficits.
How many times can Perriello feed us untruths and still expect us to believe them? Remember how Einstein defined madness.
Dick Morris said, about Tom Perriello: “I’ve got news for Tom Perriello, it is too late to repent. Repentance would to have been voting against health care, but he voted for it. Repentance would to have been to vote against all that spending, but he voted for it. Repentance would to have been to vote against Cap and Trade, but he voted for it. Repentance would have been to vote against taking away the secret ballot from union elections, but he voted for it. Repentance would have been to vote against the federal government taking over any community bank that it wanted for any reason that it wanted. So I’m sorry Mr. Perriello, it is too late now to repent.”
It is really very simple, if you want a continuation of the mayhem the Democrats have been able to cause in the last year under Obama’s democratic majority, vote for Perriello.
If you want to undertake the task of restoring the US to what the Founders had envisioned, do not vote for Perriello.
Why does Tom Perriello refuse to be honest with his 5th District constituents?
His latest campaign mailing, prepared, published and mailed at taxpayer expense even though he has a “war chest” of over $2 million, attempts to portray Perriello as a fiscal watchdog. The words on the paper don’t match his actions by a longshot.
The words say that he helped impose tough restrictions blocking new spending that isn’t paid for. The action is that he voted on July 22 for H. R. 4213 (Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2010) which will increase the deficit by $34 billion because no funding was included to pay for this new spending. Republicans supported the extension of the benefits but only if funding was provided to cover the costs and not increase the ballooning deficit. Once again, Perriello voted with Nancy Pelosi and against the best interests of his constituents.
We must put a stop to Perriello’s history of telling us one thing and then doing the opposite. Despite his claims to the contrary, he is a reliable supporter of Nancy Pelosi’s and Barack Obama’s big government agenda.
Senator Robert Hurt has proven to be a reliable conservative voice in the Virginia legislature, and will represent the 5th District well as our Congressman. He will not tell us one thing and do something else as Perriello frequently does. We can make a change by voting for Hurt on November 2.
A special thanks
On June 12, 2010, we held a benefit dance for my great niece at the Bedford Moose Lodge.
We would like to thank all the area businesses that donated various items for us to raffle to raise money.
We would also like to say thanks to the Bedford Moose Lodge for donating the upstairs to us for this dance and thank you to the Moose members and volunteers that helped out. Those people are great! We couldn’t have done this without them.
Thanks to Stone Country for providing us with some good music.
A special thanks to Cleve Conway of West Wind, who donated his time to set up the equipment for the band and he also stayed late to pack everything back up. Once Stone Country had finished, Cleve did a little DJ-ing for us.
Thanks to those people who made and donated those delicious cakes for the Cake Walk.
And last, but not least, thanks to all the great people of this community who came out and made this fundraiser a great success.
For the family of Keira Gray
I want to thank the Bedford Bulletin for its help. You published a photo and short article on our then upcoming Bedford Marine Corps League and Toys for Tots Car Show, held July 17.
This was our first go round, and was notable for moderate success in spite of glitches brought on by my inexperience. We made a reasonable amount of money for Toys for Tots. Current plans involve moving to an earlier date, one that just might have less chancy weather (we figure entrant attendance was possibly 60 percent of what it might have been because of predictions of storms and thunderstorms for the whole day: the storms came to pass late in the show).
While I’m thanking people, heading the list is Bob Craig, owner of the Mayberry Diner & Drive-In in Moneta. Bob supplied the venue, and did 99 percent of our printing, always with a smile and a useful suggestion. He has a great family place and is exceptionally community minded. Thanks also go to my wife Frances, who kept my head from flying off when the bumps in the road of progress irked me, Robin Mills and a number of others, including those whose sponsor placards didn’t get placed in time for the show. I’ve got the placards. They’ll be placed next time around.
Special thanks go to the entrants who braved the elements to show their masterpieces.
We’re working on fixing the glitches for the next show and look forward to more great community participation.
