Fire Robin Reed

Fire Robin Reed. Yes he should be fired for taking this long to make a decision on the Stalin bust.
Anyone making the kind of money he is making and can’t make a decision within 48 to 72 hours should not be in a responsible position.
And anyone associated with any responsibility for the Stalin bust should be terminated also.
He [Stalin] is not what the Memorial is all about.
Let’s stick together and support our veterans.
Do not recommend the Memorial to anyone until the Stalin bust is removed!

Filling the
backpacks

For the past 10 years, Bedford Community Resource  Center has teamed with Bedford Public Schools to provide backpacks filled with needed school supplies to low-income Bedford County students.
When I joined the Resource Center five years ago, we were serving around 200 children each year.  Three of those years the Resource Center received a generous donation from the Elks National Home that made it possible to also provide shoes for each eligible student.  Each year we have faced challenges – such as how to deliver 200 filled backs and shoes to 22 schools before the open houses at each school – but the community has always come through and the needs of the low-income students have been met.  This year we face a very daunting challenge and I am turning to the community to ask for help.
So far, we have received 275 eligible applications for school supply assistance.  It is very likely that we will end up with more than 300 applications before the application period ends.  While we have seen that the need for help has increased, we have found that we have fewer resources to respond to those needs.  At this time, we have 61 backpacks on hand and $375 to purchase additional backpacks.
We are disappointed that it is not an option to purchase shoes this year, but we are far more concerned that students will not even receive a filled backpack.
I am asking everyone reading this letter to please consider purchasing a backpack and bringing it to the Resource Center at 403 Otey Street in Bedford between the hours of 8:30 to 4:00 Monday through Friday.  Or, you can call us and we will come to you to pick it up.
I would like to further request that you share this letter with members of your church, any organization you may belong to, co-workers, family members, and anyone else who may be able to help.  All contributions are tax-deductible and help students right here in our community.
Thanks so much for helping to ensure that our community’s future leaders arrive at school ready to learn.

Thanks for help at benefit

We would like to thank everyone who gave their time and donations to the Mike Burton benefit, also a special thanks to all the businesses for their generous donations. It’s a blessing to see how our community can pull together to make a difference in someone’s life. Thank you all.
