Listening to the First Lady on the news talking about the U.S. taxpayers funding health care to some foreign countries makes you wonder why we can't have better health care in our country. With elections coming up this fall, I guess we'll have to choose the lesser of two evils, if we can figure out who it is?
And here at home in Bedford, I wonder who's reaping the benefits of the construction of townhouses and subdivisions? It certainly isn't the taxpayers in the county. We need some new leadership in our county that will meet the needs of the people here instead of attracting new residents. We need to attract new industries with more jobs. What are our young people going to do later in life for work? Just a little food for thought!
An upsetting answer
I would like to start this letter by expressing my appreciation and gratitude for all the volunteer first responders in Bedford County.
These volunteers risk their life and give up many hours of time they could be spending with their families to make our lives better. I especially want to thank Big Island EMS for responding to a family emergency I recently had. What makes this even more remarkable is I live near the Peaks of Otter which is miles from their call area.
One may ask why Big Island is responding to a call so far from their call area. I asked the same question and received a most upsetting answer. When I had to call 911 recently 50 minutes later no one had arrived at my home. Since this was a medical emergency I called 911 for a second time. I was told by the dispatcher EMS was on the way. What I was not told was that they were coming from Big Island. I live within 20 minutes of Bedford City. I was later to learn my call was "bounced" to several squads before Big Island responded.
As a life long resident of this county, I believe we have outgrown our current first responder system. I do not believe the current system is satisfactory for the volunteers or citizens. Like so many residents in this county, I do not have any children requiring new schools. What I need from my tax money is a more modern first responder system. I believe the time has come for the county to consider paid first responders.
Please alert your county supervisor if you feel the same way. I shudder to think that some day you may need a first responder and it takes over an hour for them to arrive at your house. My story has a happy ending my relative is all right, yours may not be so fortunate.
A good point
Rev. McNally's letter printed in the February 27 issue of the Bulletin was right on the money.
I voted in the February 12 presidential primary in Spotsylvania County. Like everyone else, I had to choose between the Democratic ballot and the Republican ballot, since state law does not allow voters to vote in both primaries. But why did I have to publicly declare which party I was voting for? This should not have been necessary.
The voter's choice of which primary to vote in should be made in the privacy of the voting booth. But since the voter can only vote for one candidate anyway, why do there have to be two ballots in the first place?
Instead, there can be one ballot with all the Democratic candidates identified as such and all the Republican candidates identified as such. Then the individual voters can vote for whichever one candidate they please.
The Virginia State Board of Elections can and should remedy this situation in future primaries. I encourage concerned Virginia voters to write to the SBE at 200 North 9th St. Suite 101, Richmond, VA 23219.

Plan your escape
I remember hearing this in the '70s.
Paul Harvey News 2/28/08: Scientist from NASA and NOAA announce evidence of global cooling that has been going on for 100 years.
I read an article recently that called into question temperature data collected by NOAA and cast doubt on global warming predictions. The data called into question is temperature data collected by a number NOAA field weather stations that are out of specification.
The article detailed a NOAA weather data collection station that was built years ago in a field away from buildings, people and traffic. A recent check of the station found that it is now only 8 feet from a trash incinerator. The temperature data from that station is tainted by the incinerator and can not be used to study climate change.
According to Paul Harvey news this morning several scientist believe that global cooling has been going on for 100 years. They not only see cooling but cooling at an alarming rate. Since there is such a large political investment in global warming, I wonder if we will hear more about this cooling ?
The impact of climate change is more important today than thousands of years ago due to earth's huge population growth. I believe that global cooling would be a more serious problem than warming. Damage to animal species and ancient civilizations due to an ice age is well documented.
So how will we do with the advance of global cooling ? With home heating oil now at $3 a gallon and rising, modern civilization will probably not survive an ice age. Make your escape plan.

Some people think they are advocating the good love that is described in the Bible as "love your neighbor as yourself", but most often they produce the evil love that is that is defined in the Bible as lust.
The great evil of these people is that they will not recognize the difference between good and evil so they end up with evil being victorious over good. They want the good love, but they produce pornography, abortion and homosexuality.
Good and evil must remain separated, with good being advocated and evil rejected. A lot of people think there can be victory over evil by loving evil out of existence, but I see no evidence that works. If you mix one drop of dirty water into a thousand gallons of clear water, all the water is dirty. If you mix a thousand gallons of clean water with a drop of dirty water, all the water is dirty.
Tolerance is a Christian Principle that means a person should not kill the evil person, but rather uses the fruits of the evil person to show the truths of the Bible. Evil and those who advocate evil must always be rejected, otherwise evil will be victorious.
Giving good and evil equal standing under the law is evil because it leads to disease, death and destruction.
The concept of freedom of speech without the acknowledgment that
there is evil speech led to the legalization of pornography and abortion that has killed millions of unborn children. The concept of love without the acknowledgment that there is evil love has led to the acceptance of adultery/fornication that has killed millions of people from STDs and threatens the entire world because of the destruction of the Christian Family Concept. The concept of love without the acknowledgment that there is evil love has led to the legalization of homosexuality that has killed millions of people from AIDS and threatens the entire world because of AIDS related diseases.
The only way there can be a correct understanding of good and evil is through the acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord/Savior and a commitment to follow the commandments/doctrines of the Bible. All other Atheistic/Humanistic attempts to mix good and evil will end with disease, death and destruction.
I do not write this to judge, but to offer a different way of looking at people that use their God given talents, not to glorify God, but rather to advocate evil. I am not even sure they know they are advocating evil, but they need to be presented with evidence. This is political subject, as is all things, because we have elections in America where we vote on whether the leaders of America follow the Christian Principles of the Bible or follow the Atheistic/Humanistic Principles advocated by many people.
Republicans have yet to prove to me that they really support Christian principles, but democrats have proven they do "not" support Christian Principles. The democratic party should be rejected because they advocate extreme environmentalism, socialism, feminism, pornography, abortion, homosexuality and the Atheistic Lifestyle which leads to disease, death and destruction.
The right to vote is the only legal way Christians have to reject evil. Freedom of Speech is the only legal way Christians have to present the truths of the Bible that will set men free from the bondage of sin.
Those who advocate evil are very deceptive. The way that evil is being advocated is by attacking good. Rick Howell, his associates, democrats and the News/Entertainment Industry are constantly attacking President Bush, Republicans and Christian Leaders. This is the old concept of, "building yourself up, by tearing others down."

The Bible, the inspiration of God
No matter how many times it was translated or rewritten, it still tells of God's greatness, what he did and what he said and if we all would obey his Ten Commandments it would be a far better world that God created.
God talks, but we don't listen, Satan lurks and speaks and many listen.
There are Bibles of the different Christian religions, but they all tell of Jesus Christ being and what he's done during his short life here on earth that in its self is the understanding of what God and his son, Jesus Christ, wants us to do here on Earth — love and mercy. But being human we do what we want to do and do not heed the words of God or Jesus Christ.
As Jesus said, "Either you are for me or against me, you cannot serve two masters!"
