A Lynchburg man, charged with embezzling as much as $10,000 from the Quick E Food store on Forest Road, pleaded guilty Friday to the charge in Bedford County Circuit Court.

Michael Davis, 63, admitted that while he worked as a clerk in the store for about six months he would pocket cash used to pay for cigarettes and beer by customers, rather than ringing those purchases up at the cash register.
However, his lawyer, Michael Lonchar, disputed the amount that was taken, stating it was more like $3,000.
Evidence presented during the hearing stated that a video camera in the store caught Davis taking money over a six month period last year. Davis was arrested in May.
Sentencing has been scheduled for Oct. 21 at 1:30 p.m. He could face up to 20 years in prison.
