A 29-year-old Goode woman, accused of attacking her 77-year-old boyfriend last May at his home, will undergo a psychological evaluation before standing trial for first degree murder.

Kristina Pongracz was indicted on the murder charge earlier this month by a Bedford County grand jury. Prosecutors decided to seek the murder indictment, in addition to her initial charge of aggravated malicious wounding, following the release of  the medical examiner’s report ruling the death of William Herchenrider in August as a homicide.
Webster Hogeland, who is representing Pongracz, made the request for the mental evaluation to the court on Monday. Pongracz is scheduled to go on trail on the charges June 21.
Pongracz was 28 when she was accused last May of beating Herchenrider, with whom she lived.  Herchenrider died on August 25 after briefly returning home under Hospice care.
According to testimony during a preliminary hearing, Pongracz had been with Herchenrider for 10 years.
