Led by Susan Prillaman, a Bedford County Cooperative Extension Agent specializing in family and consumer sciences, food, nutrition and health. This program will include opportunities to continue learning through online connections and are comprehensive health education workshops with flexible 10 week walking activities. Prillaman will encourage families to become more physically engaged by establishing new, positive walking habits while incorporating more water in their diets. In addition, instruction will be provided for leading individuals to set personal goals in teams of six (www.fitextension.ext.vt.edu).
Prillaman will also have hands-on displays of healthy and cost-effective snacks, as well as weekly dinner menu alternatives, for the whole family to enjoy in 2013. “We all know drinking too much soda and snacking on high fat chips and candy is probably not good for our health, but few of us consistently choose healthier alternatives.” It’s with anticipation that the Get Healthy@ Your Library programs in February and March will motivate and encourage participants to make healthier choices for themselves and their families.
