Suspect in Walmart robbery charged

A suspect has been charged in the Nov. 26 robbery at Bedford Walmart.

On Friday, December 8, investigators from the Bedford Police Department obtained warrants on Sherman Romel Jones, 37, of Roanoke, charging him with two counts robbery.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible, authorities state.

 

Other jurisdictions

It appears Jones has been tied to other robberies.

On Dec. 1, WHSV reported that the Waynesboro Police Department identified two men arrested for for committing armed robbery at First Bank & Trust there. Jones was one of the two men charged with armed robbery, use of a firearm in commission of a robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and misdemeanor brandishing a firearm.

Another Roanoke man, David Michael Fitzgerald, 60, faces one charge of armed robbery in that case.

WHSV stated that authorities have said the two men may be tied to numerous crimes throughout Virginia in the past several weeks.

 

The Bedford Walmart robbery

On November 26, 2017, at about 7 p.m.., the Bedford Police Department responded to a report of a robbery at Walmart, located in the 1100 Block of East Lynchburg Salem Turnpike in the town of Bedford.

A black male suspect described as approximately 6 foot tall entered the store and approached a register. He stated give me the money and no one will get hurt, a report from the Bedford PD stated.

The suspect had one hand in his pocket as he spoke to the clerk. The suspect left on foot with an undetermined amount of money. He was wearing a grey coat, dark pants, had a scarf over his face and a dark winter hat over his head.
