Staunton River’s Eagles showed that they can win titles, no matter what the district. One year after winning an outright Seminole District crown, the Eagles found themselves a new part of the Blue Ridge District, along with the rest of the Staunton River sports teams. Not to worry, Staunton River rose to the occasion, ripping through the Blue Ridge in undefeated fashion, to take the district title as a Ridger rookie team. The Blue Ridge recognized the accomplishment, naming Laquaksha Robinson its player of the year. It also named Jodi Salyer to the first team of the All-District squad. Additional honors went to Amy Salyer and Jordan Merrill, who received second-team recognition. The Lady Eagles were subsequently upset by Northside in the district tournament. They then lost to Turner Ashby in the Region III semifinals. Though that ending was less satisfactory than the Eagle faithful would have liked, it doesn’t detract from the substantial accomplishments of this team from Staunton River. Below, the team celebrates after clinching the title with a win over William Byrd.
