Town Meeting

-A A +A
By Chuck Neudorfer

I will be at the Moneta Library on February 20 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. for a Town Meeting.  I encourage you to come and discuss any topic you wish.

One important issue is the upcoming budget.  The Board of Supervisors has started weekly budget work sessions.  The schedule is to have a proposed draft budget ready for advertising by March 24 and a Public Hearing on April 5.   Our objective is to adopt the 2010-2011 budget on April 12.  This is going to be challenging since we do not have a clear picture of the state budget at this time.  We anticipate a much larger reduction in revenue than last year and need to identify areas where County services can be reduced.  I would very much like to hear your thoughts on budget savings and possible areas for reductions in services.

The Shoreline Management Plan (SMP) for Smith Mountain Lake is under review and will be updated this year.  A number of meetings have been held with stakeholder groups and now the Steering Committee will be meeting to consider revisions to the current SMP.  I welcome your comments about the plan so I can better represent the citizens and businesses of the area.

What is your topic of interest?  Whatever it is, bring it along and we’ll discuss it on the 20th.
