The Virginia Genealogical Society's fall conference will be Friday-Saturday, October 12, 13, 2012 in Lynchburg VA. The theme is Moving Toward the End of the Long Conflict. Friday from 10:00 to 3:00 pm will be guided research at the Jones Memorial Library, Lynchburg. The Saturday session will be from 8:30 - 4:45 pm at the Kirkley Hotel & Conference Center, 2900 Chandlers Mountain Road. Registration and check-in begins at 8:30. The lecture schedule on Saturday is: 9:15 am Myths about Lee's Surrender by Patrick Schroeder; 10:45 am The Confederate Cemetery at Appomattox by Schroeder; 11:45 am The Museum of the Confederacy - Appomattox by Linda Lipscomb; 1:15 pm The Old City Cemetery (Lynchburg) by Ted Delaney; 2:15 pm Hunter's Raid and the Battle of Lynchburg by Greg Starbuck; 3:45 pm A Visit to Old Appomattox with County Clerk George Peers a reenactment by Schroeder. Members of the Virginia Genealogical Society and the Bedford Genealogical Society, Inc. will receive a discount. There is a reduction in registration fees for all if paid by September 29. This event is open to the public and all are invited to attend.
