Morning snow showers have started to fall through southwest Virginia and road conditions may continue to change and impact drivers over the next few hours. Virginia Department of Transportation crews have been attending to roads throughout the night and will continue to monitor and address road conditions today.
Bedford County Public Schools Public Relations Coordinator Ryan Edwards released the following statement:
"It is with tremendous sorrow that we confirm and mourn the death of Victoria Diehl, 10th grade student at Staunton River High School, in yesterday's vehicle crash in Campbell County. Victoria was an outstanding young lady and proud Golden Eagle. Our condolences and deepest sympathy go out to Victoria's family and friends.
In addition, Edwards stated that counselors will be on-hand at the school when classes resume next week for all grieving students and staff.
On March 29, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of Vinton Police Department, executed a search warrant at the residence of Dewey Brown on East Augusta Ave in Vinton VA.
The search warrant was part of an ongoing investigation by the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Approximately 15 items of evidence were seized as a part of the search warrant.
At 1:50 p.m. on Friday afternoon, Bedford County 911 dispatchers received a call from the guard house at Georgia Pacific on Lee Jackson Highway in Big Island.
Today, Friday, the June session of the Bedford County Grand Jury was held to consider a number of proposed indictments. Three defendants who were previously charged for their alleged role in the death of Raymond Wood on March 27, 2017, saw their charges upgraded by these indictments. True bills were returned against the following individuals.
BEDFORD, Va. – Virginia State Police Senior Trooper M. D. Mayhew is investigating a fatal crash which occurred on March 10, 2017. The crash occurred at 7:39 a.m. on Route 24, at its intersection with Joppa Mill Road in Bedford County.
