SALEM DISTRICT: DRIVING WILL BE A CHALLENGE DURING THE EVENING COMMUTE
Drivers are encouraged to avoid southbound I-81 in Montgomery County
SALEM– Many roads remain mostly snow covered in western Virginia as snow continues to fall. Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews and contractors continue to plow and treat primary roads (those numbered 1-599) and interstates.
SALEM DISTRICT: CREWS WORKING ON SECONDARY ROADS AND NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS
SALEM– Warm temperatures and the efforts of snow plow drivers have improved road conditions throughout western Virginia. Most primary routes (those numbered 1-599) and all interstates (I-77, I-81 and I-581) are in minor condition, which means they are mostly clear with isolated slick spots.
With snowfall in southwest Virginia expected to begin before dawn this morning and continue into the evening, the Virginia Department of Transportation is encouraging drivers to avoid unnecessary travel today until after the storm passes and road conditions improve.
Road conditions could change as wet roads freeze and more precipitation moves through
SALEM – Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews across the state have been mobilized today to treat roads as a wintry mix of precipitation has been affecting travel.
Most roads in VDOT’s Salem District are currently in clear or minor condition, which means they are mostly wet with isolated slick spots.
Delegate Kathy J. Byron (R-Bedford County) celebrated a victory this evening, winning her ninth term representing the 22nd District in the Virginia General Assembly. At a gathering of supporters at the Republican Victory Center on Leesville Road in Lynchburg, Byron delivered the following remarks:
The Virginia State Police is continuing its investigation into a traffic crash this morning that occurred around 8:20 am on Route 43 just north of Route 838 Bedford County. The investigation revealed that 2003 Chevrolet Tracker which was traveling northbound on Route 43 crossed the center line and struck a 2007 Ford Taurus which was traveling southbound head-on.
Dixie Boys Baseball, Inc. announces that they will formally honor Andy Dooley as a member of their Hall of Fame. The recognition ceremony will be held on October 19, 2013 at the Moose Lodge in Bedford. Dooley is a current resident of Thaxton.
