Community Bible Study

    Twenty years ago a storm came through and knocked a lot of fruit off the trees at Gross’ Orchard in Bedford.

    That fruit was usable, but could not be sold.
    That, according to Ronnie Gross, is when they learned about the Society of St. Andrew in Big Island, and were able to coordinate the gleaning of the fruit at the Gross’ Farm.
    That partnership has been ongoing for the past two decades, including last week during the Commonwealth Day of Gleaning.

VBS at Staunton Baptist

Revival services
The congregation of Calvary Baptist Church will hold revival services beginning on Sunday, June 24 at 9:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. and nightly at 7 p.m. Sunday.-Wednesday, June 27 with Dr. Jim Sumpter, pastor/evangelist.

Mary Virginia Woodford Spradlin, 94, of Altavista, died Monday, May 21, 2012 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was born Nov. 23, 1917 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Ella Catherine Wood Woodford and Joel Shepherd Woodford. She was the last of thirteen children surviving.
Mary was a member of Ephesus United Methodist Church. She was employed at Rubatex Corp. for over 20 years.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John Aubrey Spradlin.
