  • Gaynelle L. Scott, 89, Bedford

        Gaynelle L. Scott, 89 of Bedford died Nov. 17, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Herbert and Maude Stiff. She is preceded in death by children Barbara Brown, Marion Otey and Paul “Cream” Anderson.
        She is survived by two children, Claude Anderson and Claudia Steptoe.
        Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Washington Street Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Fairmont Cemetery.

        David Mends, 93, of Huddleston, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 in Lynchburg General Hospital.  He was born April 16, 1919, in London, England, a son of the late Eva Augusta Mary Doll Mends and Aubrey George William Mends.

  • Helena A. Wozniak, 86, Bedford

        Helena A. Wozniak, 86, of Bedford, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 in Bedford Memorial Hospital. Born in Poland on Sept. 1, 1926 she was the daughter of the late David and Praksy Alekesejw. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John Wozniak in 2003.
        Helena was a member of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church.

  • Ronald D. Wood, 49, Bedford

        Ronald Dean Wood, 49 of  Bedford, passed away Monday, July 2, 2012 at  Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  He was born on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 1963  in Bedford County, a son of Willard Dean Wood and Doris Jean McKinney Wood of Bedford who survive.
        He was an employee of the Public Service Authority and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Sons of the Confederate Veterans.  He was also a U. S. Air Force veteran. 

  • Cecelia M. Murphy, 94, Lynchburg

        Cecelia Catherine McCarthy Murphy, 94, of Lynchburg, died Friday, July 6, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Timothy Joseph McCarthy and Elizabeth Ann McCarthy. Cecelia was born in Millis, Mass., on May 29, 1918.
        Cecelia is survived by her son, Chuck Murphy (Ann), of Hardy; two grandchildren; Kate Murphy (Preston) of San Luis Obispo, CA. and Kevin Murphy (Lauren) of Loudoun, Co; one sister; Mary Barrett of Westwood, MA.

  • Brad M. Saunders, 31, Bedford

        Brad Millard Saunders, 31, of Bedford, died Saturday, July 7, 2012.  Born in Lynchburg on May 9, 1981 he was the son of Norma and Hugh Saunders.
        In addition to his parents he is survived by his daughter, Kailyn Saunders and her mother, Kathleen; brother, Eddie Daniels; sister, Catherine Nance and husband, Tommy; his niece, Annabelle Nance; grandmother, Lois Ruff; his aunt, Lisa Saunders, his uncle, Harvey Ruff; a special friend, Heather Pendley and his favorite long time dog, Molly. 

  • Francis J. Randazzo, 91, Bedford

        Francis Joseph Randazzo, 91, of Bedford, died Saturday, June 30, 2012. Born Jan. 30, 1921 in New York, NY; he was the son of the late Joseph Randazzo and Pearl Bogart Randazzo and the husband of the late Dorothy Greene Randazzo.
        Francis served during WWII in the Army Air Corp. He was a retired FAA Radar Chief at Apple Orchard Mountain.
        In addition to his parents and wife, Francis was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Randazzo and a daughter-in-law, Teresa Jackson Randazzo.

  • Eleanor R. Phillips, 71, Thaxton

        Eleanor Rose Phillips, 71 of Thaxton, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012 at her home. She was born on Saturday, Aug. 24, 1940 in Thaxton, a daughter of the late James Eli Rose and Eva Jane Johnson Rose.
        She was also preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Pascal Rose. She was previously employed with Vinton Weaving and was a member of the Stoney Creek Rebekah Lodge 103.

  • Katie O. Lynch, 60, Bedford

        Katie Lyla Overstreet Lynch, 60, of Bedford, died Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Bedford Memorial Hospital.  She was born Sept. 12, 1951 in Bedford, a daughter of the late Hazel Victoria Johnson Overstreet and Willie Mack Overstreet.

  • Willena K. Elmore, Blacksburg

         Willena Jay (Billie) Schoene Kean Elmore was born Dec. 20, 1920 in Blacksburg to Rena Bella Yankey Schoene and William Jay Schoene. She grew up in Blacksburg and returned there in her retirement years.
