  • Cecelia M. Murphy, 94, Lynchburg

        Cecelia Catherine McCarthy Murphy, 94, of Lynchburg, died Friday, July 6, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Timothy Joseph McCarthy and Elizabeth Ann McCarthy. Cecelia was born in Millis, Mass., on May 29, 1918.
        Cecelia is survived by her son, Chuck Murphy (Ann), of Hardy; two grandchildren; Kate Murphy (Preston) of San Luis Obispo, CA. and Kevin Murphy (Lauren) of Loudoun, Co; one sister; Mary Barrett of Westwood, MA.

  • Ronald D. Wood, 49, Bedford

        Ronald Dean Wood, 49 of  Bedford, passed away Monday, July 2, 2012 at  Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  He was born on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 1963  in Bedford County, a son of Willard Dean Wood and Doris Jean McKinney Wood of Bedford who survive.
        He was an employee of the Public Service Authority and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Sons of the Confederate Veterans.  He was also a U. S. Air Force veteran.

        Christopher Michael “Chris” Abbott, 40 of Bedford, passed away Friday, June 22, 2012 as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was born on Tuesday, April 4, 1972 in Bedford, a son of Nelson Ray Abbott and friend, Vickie Wimmer of Troutville and Jeanette Fitzgerald Overstreet of Thaxton. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Lori Renee Abbott.

        Elizabeth “Betty” Gray Holland, 90, of Bedford, died Sunday, June 24, 2012 in Lynchburg Health & Rehab. She was born Aug. 31, 1921 in Lynchburg, a daughter of the late Elizabeth Goodwin Slough Gray and Charles Leon Gray.
        Betty was a member of Bedford Christian Church. She was also a member of the Lynchburg Elk’s Club #321 and the Bedford Ruritan Club. Betty retired from Leggett of Bedford after many years of service.

        Joyce Overstreet Hackworth, 76 of Bedford, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born on Thursday, Sept. 19, 1935 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Cecil Colon Overstreet and Lucille Barden Overstreet.
        She was a retired employee of the City of Bedford and attended Calvary Baptist Church.

Layne.  Virginia was born on Nov. 4, 1949 in Vinton a daughter of the late Ernestine Wilson Ceary and the late William Paul Ceary.

She passed away peacefully at her home. Mrs. Mitchell was born on Nov. 22, 1936 in Bedford County and was a daughter of the late Mack Hilber and Rebecca Arrington Hilber.
