  • Anna Y. Thienel, 89, Bedford

        Anna Mae Yopp Thienel, 89, of Bedford, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, in Lynchburg General Hospital.  Born March 1, 1920, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late James Yopp and Minnie Odell Collins Yopp. 

        In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Marie Thienel; five brothers, Grant Yopp (due to casualty of D-Day), Armon Yopp, Herbert Yopp, Nelson Yopp and Madison Yopp; and two sisters, Bly McFall and Alice Wagner.

  • Robert E. Lowry

        Robert “The Brave” Edward Lowry, son, husband, daddy, educator, lifelong learner, and En10se Hokie, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009.  Robert faced cancer as he did all situations in life, with optimism, bravery and poise.  He is now wearing his favorite boots in the halls of heaven.

  • Robert E. Elkins, 71, Bedford

        Robert Edsell Elkins, 71 of  Bedford passed away Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at  Bedford Memorial Hospital.  He was born on Saturday, Nov. 6, 1937, in Bedford Co., a son of the late Rudolph J. Elkins and Ersell Miller Elkins.

        He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Robertson Elkins; a son, Bobby Elkins and a brother, William Eugene Elkins. 

        He was a retired employee of the Virginia Department of Transportation. 

  • Anne T. Gray, 79, Bedford

        Anne Turner Gray, 79 of  Bedford passed away Thursday, Sept.17, 2009, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  She was born on Thursday, June 26, 1930, in Bedford Co., a daughter of the late Henry Franklin Turner and Vernie Massey Turner. 

        She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard Davis Gray and a sister, Nancy T. Reid.      She was a supervisor with General Electric having retired after thirty years of service.  She was also a member of Bedford Baptist Church. 

  • Emmett G. Krantz, 91, Huddleston

        Emmett Garland Krantz, 91 of  Huddleston passed away Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at  Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.  He was born on Monday, Aug. 5, 1918, in Bedford Co., a son of the late Robert Davis Krantz and Monnie Murphy Krantz. 

        He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Keith Krantz. 

  • William R. Latimer, Jr., 79, Bedford

    `William Robert (Bobby) Latimer, Jr., 79, of Bedford, passed away Thursday, Sept. 17, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, following several months of illness.

        He was predeceased by his parents, William Robert Latimer, Sr., and Kate Smith Latimer, as well as his sister, Jean Latimer Nance.

  • James G. Parker, Jr., 62, Roanoke

        James Garfield (Brother/Bubby) Parker, Jr., 62 of  Roanoke and formally of Bedford County left his earthly home at Richfield Recovery and Care Center on Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, to be with the Lord and be reunited with his Dad and Mom.  He was born on Tuesday, May 27, 1947, in Roanoke Co., a son of the late James Garfield Parker and Laura Hogan Parker Flowers.

  • John D. Phillips, 95, Forest

        John Devereaux Phillips, 95, of Forest, died Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, in Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital.  Born Aug. 15, 1914, in Rockville Centre, NY, a son of the late Edward Albert Phillips and Anna Josephine Sundwald Phillips.

  • Terry M. Creasey, 54, Huddleston

        Terry Michael Creasey, 54, of  Huddleston, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at his residence.  He was born on Friday, Aug. 5, 1955, in Roanoke, a son of Cynthia Marie Leftwich Creasey of Huddleston who survives and the late Marshall B. Creasey.

        He loved fishing and hunting, was a self-employed painter and was also a member of Huddleston United Methodist Church.  

  • Ida F. Elliott, 80, Roanoke

        Ida Bowyer Flowers (Nana) Elliott, 80, of Roanoke, has gone to join her husband, James L. “Rope” Elliott, on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009.  She was the third child born to the late Smead Davis Bowyer and Nora Gray Bowyer Gill.
