  • Evelyn G. Aliff, 86, Montvale

        Evelyn Mae Gray Aliff, 86, of Montvale, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at her residence.  She was born in Maryland on April 7, 1922, a daughter of the late, Percy Milton Gray and Annie Levice Higgs Gray. 

        In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad Lewis Griffin Aliff, her daughter, Nancy Bolick, her grandson, Tommy Bolick, Jr., six brothers and five sisters. 

  • Rebecca C. Anderson, 86, Bedford

    Rebecca Saunders Cutler Anderson, 86, of Bedford passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at the Bedford Memorial Hospital.  She was the daughter of the late William Hammett and Lucy Smith Saunders of Bedford.  She was born in Winding Gulf, WV on February 23, 1922.

        She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry L. Cutler of CA and Col. John B. Anderson of Smith Mountain Lake.  She was also preceded in death by one brother, Stuart T. Saunders; two sisters, Virginia S. Garrison and Frances S. Hawkins. 

  • Thomas H. Blankenship, 67, Salem

        Thomas (Tom) Hardy Blankenship, 67, of Salem, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008.

        He was retired from Grandin Road Texaco. He was a member of the Hollins and Salem Moose Lodge. He had a great love of auctions.

        He was predeceased by his parents, Edgar and Ruth Blankenship.

  • Emily J. Chappelle, 82, Bedford

        Emily Lee Johnson Chappelle, 82 of Bedford, passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, in the Bedford County Nursing Home.  She was born Feb. 7, 1926, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Robert Lee Johnson and Beulah Carter Johnson.

        She was a member of Thaxton Baptist Church and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

  • Jack R. Cook, 78, Bedford

        Jack R. Cook, 78, of Bedford, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, in Lynchburg General Hospital.  Born Feb. 21, 1930, in Brooklyn, NY, a son of the late Jaman R. Cook and Ora E. Bolton Cook. 

        He graduated from the “School of Hard Knocks” and worked as a tool and dye maker for 45 years. Jack was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church and Men’s Club.  He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

  • Ida W. Tuck, 47, Goode

    x    Ida Ruth Welch Tuck, 47 of  Goode passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at her residence.  She was born on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 1961, in Lynchburg, a daughter of the James P. Welch, Sr. and the late Catherine Ann Gross Welch. 

        She was a member of Sedalia Baptist Church.

        In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Robert Woodson Tuck and many other loving family members. 

  • Wylma H. Marshall, 72, Bedford

        Wylma Jane Harper Marshall, 72, of Bedford, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at her residence.  She was born in Caney Springs, TN on May 2, 1936, a daughter of the late Jesse Johnson Harper and Maggie Williams Harper. 

        In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Thomas Harper. 

  • Michele F. Stennette, 42, Bedford

        Michele Renee Ferguson Stennette, 42, of Bedford, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, in Lynchburg General Hospital.  She was born July 16, 1966, in Bedford. 

        She loved spending time with her children.  Michele also enjoyed collecting stamps, cats, Elvis and drawing.

  • Russell T. Kendrick, 81, Altavista

        Russell Turner Kendrick, 81 of Altavista passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2008.

  • Hilda H. McManaway, 98, Bedford

    Hilda Huddleston McManaway, age 98, formerly of Chamblissburg passed away Monday, Dec. 15, 2008 at  Bedford County Nursing Home. She was born in Bedford county on Feb. 1, 1910, a daughter of the late Lewis C. Huddleston and Dora H. Huddleston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester L. (Mac) McManaway.

        She was the last surviving sibling of five who preceded her, Lucille H. Carter, Mabel H. Saunders, Maree H. Saunders and John F. (Jack) Huddleston.
