  • Elizabeth Thomas, 89, NJ

        Elizabeth Dickerson Thomas, age 89, of Orange, New Jersey and formerly of Bedford, died as a result of a tragic accident on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008.

        She was born in Bedford, a daughter of the late Annie T. and Charlie Dickerson. She attended the Bedford Training School.

        In later years, she moved to Orange, NJ and was united in marriage to the late John Thomas, Sr., and from this union two children were born.

  • Costoline A. Turner, 84, Bedford

        Costoline Ayers Turner, 84 of  Bedford passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at  the Bedford County Nursing Home.  She was born on Saturday, Oct. 18, 1924, in Bedford Co., a daughter of the late Mose P. Ayers and the late Ollie Jane Overstreet Ayers. 

        She was also preceded in death by brothers, Kyle, Russell, Elmo, Lloyd and Carlton Odell Ayers and a sister, Evelyn Walker. 

        She was a retired employee of  Rubatex Corporation and was a member of Pecks Baptist Church. 

  • Charles W. Turpin, 86, Bedford

    Charles Winston Turpin, 86, of Bedford, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, in Bedford Memorial Hospital.  He was born in Winston-Salem, NC on Dec. 12, 1921, a son of the late Charles Walter Turpin and Frances Wilson Turpin. 

        In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine McGuire Turpin, his brother, James Turpin. 

  • Virginia M. Tolley, 82, Gladys

        Virginia Alease Markham Tolley, 82, of Gladys and formerly of Big Island, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, in a tragic house fire with her long time companion, Bernard Clayton Goff.  She was born Dec. 27, 1925, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Channing Bell Markham and Berta Goff Markham.

        Virginia attended Hunting Creek Baptist Church.

  • Frank J. Witt, 73, Moneta

        Frank Joseph Witt, 73, of Moneta, passed away Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at the V.A. Medical Center in Salem. He was born in Bedford County on Oct. 5, 1935, a son of the late Dillard and Iva Bowyer Witt.

        In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his one and only child, William Joseph (Billy Witt); two sisters, Lelia Witt Hodges and Eunice Witt LaPradd. 

  • Robert J. Moseley, Sr., 86, Bedford

        Robert J. Moseley, Sr., age 86 of Bedford, departed this life Nov. 30, 2008. 

        He is survived by five children, Barbara (Harold) Anderson, Bernice Moseley, Cheryl (Syed) Hague, Robert (Brenda) Moseley, Jr., and JoAnn (Dennis) Smith; grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. 

  • Lillie B. Ayers, 100, Bedford

        Lillie Bragg Ayers, 100 of  Bedford passed away Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at Campbell Rest Home.  She was born on Monday, Aug. 24, 1908, in Campbell Co., a daughter of the late Houston I. Bragg and Lillie Ruth West Bragg. 

        She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Hebert Ayers and a grandson, Brian K. Dooley 

  • Wesley P. Nance, 89, KY

        Wesley P. Nance, 89, passed away Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, at the V.A. Hospital in Louisville.

        He was an Army veteran. He is survived by his daughter, Doris Nance and her husband, Jamie Guillory; sisters, Rachel Nance, Christine Nance, and Manning Noel; and his dear friends, Ed and Pat Hunt.

        Funeral services were held at Evergreen Funeral Home with entombment in Evergreen Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hosparus P.O. Box 35425 Louisville, KY 40232-9892.

     

  • Ralph W. Porter

        Ralph W. Porter passed away on Nov. 20, 2008. He was born on June 22, 1929, in Ohio and is the son of the late Galen and Dorothy Porter. 

        He is preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Kinsey and brother, Glen Porter. 

  • William Hubbard, 89, Bedford

        William “Boyd” Hubbard, 89, died Wednesday Nov. 19, 2008, at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bedford County on May 15, 1919, and was the son of the late Robert L. and Nannie Kate Hubbard.

        In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Durham, Annie Overstreet, Janie Catron, and Robert L. Hubbard Jr.
