  • Dorothy F. Stanley, 80, Moneta

    Dorothy Falls Stanley, 80, of Moneta, passed away on Monday Oct. 27, 2008. She was born in Springwood, on April 26, 1928.

    She was a member of Springwood Baptist Church and was baptized in Springwood. She moved to Roanoke upon her marriage to Jessie L. Stanley on Jan. 6, 1951, and became a member of Bonsack Baptist Church. After moving to Bedford County, she became a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church.

  • Elinor G. McGlauflin, 81, Richmond

    Elinor Ruth Glazier McGlauflin, 81, of Richmond and formerly of Huddleston passed away on Sunday Nov. 2, 2008, in Richmond, with her family by her side.

    Elinor was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Ruth Glazier, her brother Everett Glazier, and her husband Donald R. McGlauflin.

    She is survived by her son Wayne Montgomery, his wife Sandy; as well as her sons Andy and Narci McGlauflin. She is also survived by her sister, Geneva McGlauflin and her brother, Richard Glazier, as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

  • Suzanne Glass, 74, Salem

    Suzanne Glass, 74, of Salem, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, with her family by her side. She was born on Jan. 15, 1934, a daughter of the late Anna Blanche Richards Glass and James Burleigh Winston Glass.

    Sue graduated as Valedictorian of the class of 1956, at Roanoke College. She then earned her Master’s of Arts degree in Mathematics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Sue then returned to Roanoke College as Associate Professor of Mathematics and retired after 36 years of service.

  • H. Louis Gallaher, 84, Lynchburg

    H. Louis Gallaher, 84, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008. Louis was born June 12, 1924, on the Gallaher family farm at Perrowville, a son of the late Hubert Clifton Gallaher and Louise Thomas Gallaher.

    Louis was the first-born child and was later joined by his younger sisters, Frances and Helen. Growing up on the family farm, Louis and his sisters never wanted for love, attention and fun. Louis began his education at Elk Valley School and graduated from Boonsboro High School. He then completed his degree at Phillips Business College.

  • William M. Allen, 53, Bedford

    William Michael “Mike” Allen, 53, of Bedford, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at his residence. He was born in Roanoke on Dec. 18, 1954, a son of Helen Virginia Cocke Allen of Bedford and the late William Rucker Allen.

    In addition to his mother he is survived by a brother, Mark Steven Allen; a sister, Brenda Allen Johnson and husband, Benny; three nephews, William Kendall Allen, John David Allen and Bryan Steven Allen.

  • Mary W. Wilkins, 82, Bedford

    Mary Evelyn Ward Wilkins, 82, of Bedford and formerly of Suffolk, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at her residence. She was born in Nansemond County, on May 18, 1926, a daughter of the late Merritt A. Ward and Una Vera Jones Ward.

    In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Ervin Wilkins.

    She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Suffolk and worked for many years at Nansemond Drug Store.

  • Sharon B. Slusher, 61, Bedford

    Sharon Marie Burnop Slusher, 61, of Bedford, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at her residence. She was born May 23, 1947, in Roanoke, a daughter of the late Roy James Burnop and Ruby Anna Daniel Burnop.

    Sharon was a retired school teacher of the Bedford County Public Schools.

  • Pauline R. Pierce, 83, Montvale

    Pauline Rose Pierce 83 of Montvale, Died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at Bedford County Nursing Home. She was born on Aug. 28, 1925, a daughter of the late Franklin Pierce and Matilda McMillan DeKizer.

    In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter; Sheela McCoy; and a brother, Earl Pierce.

  • Lewis A. Hannabass, 76, Moneta

    Lewis A. Hannabass, "Frog", 76 of Moneta passed away Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, in the comfort of his home after a long illness. Lewis was born on Wednesday, April 20, 1932, in Bedford County, a son of the late Edward J. Hannabass Sr. and the late Della Jenkins Hannabass.

    Lewis was a life long Bedford County farmer as well as the owner operator of Hannabass Trucking, Inc. for many years. He was a member of Diamond Hill Baptist Church. Lewis was also a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.

  • Annie H. Gray, 95, Bedford

    Annie Holdren Gray, "Pearlie", 95 of Bedford passed away Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born on Saturday, April 12, 1913, in Bedford County, a wife of the late William M. Gray, Sr. and a daughter of the late Robert Raymond Holdren and the late Ollie Rena Wheeler.

    She was also preceded in death by 5 Brothers, Larson, John, Fred, Pete and Ed Holdren, 2 sisters, Frances H. Franklin and Mabel H. Thurman.
