  • Harold G. Obenchain, 85, Montvale

    Harold Garrett Obenchain, 85, of Montvale, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at his home. He was born Sunday, Dec. 31, 1922, to the late Harry Marshall and Ruth Garrett Obenchain.

    Harold was in the United States Army during WWII and was proud to have served in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of Blue Ridge Church of the Brethren.

    Harold is preceded in death by wife Thelma Arthur Obenchain; brother, Robert M. Obenchain Sr.; sister, Frances O. Rose.

  • Sibyle K. Coleman, 81, Bedford

    Sibyle Patricia Keith Coleman, 81, of Bedford, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008. She was born Sept. 15, 1926, in Havaco, West Virginia, and was the daughter of the late George Washington Keith and Virginia Baker Keith. Sibyle was a long time member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church and retired from the Bedford County School System. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Sherrill Coleman, Sr.; two sisters, Evelyn K. Stokely and Hortense K. Mount.

  • James R. Stevens, 71, Evington

    James Robert Stevens, 71, of Evington, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Mary Wingfield Stevens for 50 years.

    Born April 22, 1936, in Bedford County, he was a son of the late James Elmer and Annie Overstreet Stevens.

    Mr. Stevens was the owner and operator of J&R Church Furnishings and was an avid country, bluegrass and gospel musician. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves and a member of Moose Lodge #1727. Mr. Stevens was a member of Laurel Grove Presbyterian Church in Bedford.

  • Gary L. Davidson, 54, Lynchburg

    Gary Lee Davidson, 54, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, completing a courageous battle with ALS. He was the husband of Patricia “Tricia” P. Davidson for 32 years.

  • Ruth H. Collins, 99, Bedford

    Ruth Hazel Collins, 99, of Bedford, died on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008. She was born July 1, 1908, in Jackson, Michigan, and was the daughter of the late Clarence Clifton and Martha Christina Weber Miller.

    In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Sydney Pearson Collins.

  • Edna C. Burnette, 92, Bedford

    Edna Carden Burnette, 92 of Bedford passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, in Kirkland, WA, where she and her husband had resided for the past three years to be near their daughter. She was born on Thursday, May 13, 1915, in Williamson, WV, a daughter of the late Luther I. Carden and Alva Wooten Carden.

    She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Page Burnette.

  • Viola C. Walton, 83, Lynchburg

    Viola Carson Walton, 83, of Lynchburg died on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008. She was born June 10, 1924, in Campbell County, daughter of the late Joseph Thomas and Annie Martin Carson.

    Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, The Reverend Charles Harmon Walton; five brothers, Royal, Paul, Earl, Esmus Carson and Samuel Aurelius.

  • Emza D. Kennedy, 80, Bedford

    Emza Douglas Kennedy, 80 of Bedford passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, at his residence. He was born on Monday, Oct. 24, 1927, in Isaban, WV, a son of the late George W. Kennedy and Chloe Kennedy Kennedy.

    He was also preceded in death by a son, Douglas Wayne Kennedy and a brother, Elster Kennedy.

  • Lawrence P. Doxzen, 49, Bedford

    Lawrence Patrick Doxzen, 49 of Bedford passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on Sunday, Sept. 14, 1958, in Baltimore, MD, a son of Ruby Jones Doxzen of Bedford, who survives and the late Lawrence R. Doxzen.

    He was an electrician and also a U. S. Army veteran.

  • Lt. Comm. Robert E. Curry,USN Ret., 84, Bedford

    Lt. Comm. Robert Eric Curry, USN Ret. 84, of Bedford, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in New Haven, CT, on Aug. 12, 1923, a son of the late, Eric Gresham Curry and Bernice Anderson Curry.

    He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.

    In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Clarabelle Tucker Curry, a sister, Ruth Curry Roche.
