    Judith Chafin Weaver, 63, of Greensboro, NC (formerly of Bedford) passed away peacefully in her sleep at Beacon Place Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born Sept. 9, 1944, she was the eldest daughter of the late Dewey O. and Otelia O. Chafin of Bedford.

  • Warren J. Tuck, 87, Moneta

    Warren James Tuck, 87 of Moneta went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on Thursday, Sept. 2, 1920, in Bedford County, a son of the late Early Lay Tuck and Hattie Hines Tuck.

    His wife, Ruth Harris Tuck preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Olan C. Tuck and A. B. Tuck and one sister, Sue Tuck Ferguson.

    Robert Baden Thomson, 80, of Moneta, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at his residence. He was born May 18, 1927, in New Zealand, son of the late William E. Thomson and Nellie C. Thomson.

    Bob was a member of the New Zealand Antarctic Society, former President of Beechwood Shores Association, Vice President of ALAC, and a member of the Moneta Lion's Club.

    Denzil Elizabeth Powell Murdoch passed from this life Dec. 31, 2007, in Bedford, in the arms of her beloved husband, Major General Francis J. Murdoch Jr. USA (Ret).

    "Denny", an English woman, was born in Perth, Australia Sept. 13, 1918, and lived her early life in England and the Far East. In 1945 she married Her American Officer and Gentleman, following him from pillar to post for the next 25 years before settling in Bedford County.

  • Doris M. Daniels Morris, 64, Bedford

    Doris M. Daniels Morris, 64 of Bedford went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, from rare liver disease. She was born on Wednesday, May 19, 1943, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Henry Price McGhee and Loraine Holdren McGhee.

    She was also preceded in death by her two best friends/sisters, Shirley M. Smith and Barbara L. McGhee and one brother, James H. McGhee.

  • Captain Harry R. Moore, (USN Ret.), Bedford

    Captain Harry Russell Moore, (USN Ret.) of Bedford, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007. He was born Dec. 28, 1921, at Spratt, Ohio son of the late Harry A. Moore and Blanche Edith Blackstone Moore.

    After graduation from Chandlersville High School, he attended Ohio State University prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1942. On Jan. 12, 1945, Russell Moore married the love of his life, Marcella Virginia Williams, who preceded him in death in June 2001. He was commissioned July 9, 1945.

    Patsy Ruth Hatcher Miller, 79 of Bedford, died Jan. 6, 2008, in Oakwood Manor. She was born in Erwin, TN a daughter of the late James Henry Hatcher and Sarah Ruth Bartee Hatcher.

    In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Jack Ralph Miller, a granddaughter, Melanie LeAnn Dempsey, two brothers, John Henry Hatcher and James Walter Hatcher and a sister, Mary Alice Hatcher.

    She was a member of Suck Spring Baptist Church.

  • Evelyn K. Mehaffey, 87, Bedford

    Evelyn Wade Killian Mehaffey, 87, of Bedford, died Jan. 4, 2008, in Oakwood Manor. She was born in Corbin, KY, on Jan. 28, 1920, a daughter of the late, Van Rankin Killian and Nora Rebecca Wade Killian.

    In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Lee Mehaffey, Jr., a sister, Eleanor Christine Reed, a brother, George Killian.

    She was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church.

  • Nathaniel R. Fowler, 75, Bedford

    Nathaniel R. Fowler, age 75, of Bedford, departed this life Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home.

    He is survived by one brother, Wiley (Evelyn) Fowler, a devoted nephew, Ronald Fowler, and host of other nephews and nieces.

    Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at 1 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. J. D. Holland, eulogist. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

    The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. at the Bedford Funeral Home Chapel.

  • Wendell L. Ferguson, 37, Big Island

    Wendell Lee Ferguson, 37 of Big Island passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at the University of Virginia Hospital. He was born on Friday, Feb. 20, 1970, in Greenville, SC, a son of Patricia Lynn Davis Harmon of Big Island.

    He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John W. Davis.

    He was a employee of Forestry Equipment of Virginia and was a member of Sedalia Baptist Church and the National Rifle Association.
