  • Sarah H. Brennan, Bedford

    Sarah Kathleen Hall Brennan of Bedford, died Dec. 8, 2007. Born Oct. 18, 1923, in Altavista, a daughter of the late Herbert Marion Hall and Mazia Rolland Jordan Hall.

    She was the devoted wife of Thomas Harold Brennan for 57 years, a mother of five children, grandmother of eight and great grandmother of five.

    In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Georgia Lynn Yeager; a sister, Edna Hall Torrence and two brothers: Russell Eugene Hall and James Rolland Hall.

  • David L. Bryant, 77, Forest

    David Lee Bryant of Forest, died Dec. 1 in Nassau of heart failure at the age of 77. He was the son of the late William Chesley and Ethel Modlin Bryant. He was the devoted widower of Madeline Wooldridge Bryant. He was the loving father of Carroll Bryant Brown and her husband Wayne Eugene Brown and Barry Eugene Bryant and his wife Bonnie Moses Bryant, all of Smith Mountain Lake.

  • Mabel H. Sensabaugh, 93, Forest

    The Lord came and peacefully took Mabel Hamilton Sensabaugh, 93, of Forest, on Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, to join her beloved husband in that glorious land of no ills or heartaches.

    Born April 10, 1914, in Rockbridge County, she was the daughter of the late James Woody and Mattie Letcher Hamilton.

    She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Franklin Sensabaugh (1991) and a brother Roy Hamilton (1970).

  • Eula D. Ru ff, 89, Thaxton

    Eula Dooley Ruff, 89, of Thaxton, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, in Lewis-Gale Hospital. She was born in Bedford County on Nov. 7, 1918, and was the last of 11 children of Andrew Jackson Dooley and Ellen Orange Dooley.

    In addition to her parents and her five brothers and five sisters, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hennis Ruff, a son, Boyd J. Carter and a daughter, Betty Ann Tweedy and a special grandson, Philip Moreno.

  • Charlie B. Moore, 80, Danville

    Charlie Birkley Moore, 80 of Danville and formerly of Lynch Station passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007. He was born on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 1927, in Campbell County, a son of the late Charles Daniel Moore and Ludie Kate Reynolds Moore.

    He was also preceded in death by brother, Burnell Moore and two sisters, Beatrice Moore Kerr and Gracie Moore White.

    He was retired from the Lane Company, Altavista. He served his country in the U. S. Army. He was a member of the Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy.

  • Willis H. Ligon, II, 91, Goode

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Merium Rose Ligon, a sister, Margaret Dudley and two brothers, James Ligon and Newton Ligon.

    He was a retired employee of Blue Cross and Blue Shield/Anthem and was a member of the Kiwanas, Masons and the Shriners Children Hospital and the Bethany United Methodist Church. He was also a past member of the Bedford County Planning Commission. Mr. Ligon was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in World War II.

  • Russell P. Guthrie, Sr., 89, Hampton

    Russell P. Guthrie, Sr., 89, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007. Born in Bedford County, he had been a Hampton resident since 1951 and retired from the Newport News shipyard in 1981 after 30 years service.

    Mr. Guthrie was a 50 year member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where he had served on many boards and in many capacities including Senior Trustee of the church. He had also served as a Scout Master with Boy Scout Troop 78.

    Mr. Guthrie was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Pauline Guthrie; parents, J.K. and Goldie Guthrie; five sisters and four brothers.

  • Brenda S. Gilbert, 58, Woodbridge

    Brenda Susan Gilbert, passed away at the age of 58 at her residence in Woodbridge, on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at 6:49 a.m. with her husband at her side. She was born on Saturday, March 5, 1949, in Washington, D.C., a daughter of James Everett Robey of McColl, S.C., and Mildred Dean Blankenship Mock of Bedford, both of whom survive.

  • Ossie W. Creasey, 101, Bedford

    Ossie Williams Creasey, 101, of Bedford died Wednesday Nov. 28, 2007, in Oakwood Manor Nursing Home. She was born Jan. 15, 1906, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Charles Edward Williams and Kate Goode Williams.

    Ossie was the oldest living member of Bedford Baptist Church and a retiree of Bedford Weaving Mill.

    In addition to her parents, Ossie was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Davis Creasey and a sister Reba Goode Agee.

    She is survived by numerous cousins and friends.

  • Douglas W. Bush Jr., 51, Bedford

    Douglas Wayne "Doug"Bush Jr., 51 of Bedford, passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, in Mexico. He was born Aug. 15, 1956, in Trenton, New Jersey, a son of Gerry Mann of Bedford and the late Douglas Wayne Bush Sr.

    He was preceded in death by his step-father, Bennie Mann. He was also the grandson of the late Onie and Vera Williamson.

    In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Chyna Nicole Bush and a son, Dylan Shae Bush, both of Nags Heads, N.C., and his faithful four legged companion, Baby.
