  • Willard A. East, 88, West Palm Beach, F

    Willard Angus East, 88, passed away Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, in West Palm Beach Veterans Hospital, West Palm Beach, Florida.

    He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 45 years Ardella (Della) C. East, son Mark East of Lynchburg and stepson and wife Michael and Demmi Peters of Florida - Sister, Wyona East Johnson of Thaxton, and Sister-in-law Juanita T. East of Hurt.

    Willard was the son of the late Benjamin Harrison and Elsie Lee Brumfield East. His beloved brother Ralph preceded him in death.

    Willard was born in Motley, Virginia on March 2, 1919.

  • Sarah Z. Hawthorne, 75, Richmond

    Sarah Hawthorne, 75, of Richmond, formerly of Bedford, went to be with the Lord Monday, Oct. 22, 2007. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eva and Curtis Zimmerman; and brother, Alton. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ellen and Ed Hofmann, and Charlene and Chris Harkrader; sister, Gracie Padgett; and grandson, Seth Hofmann. Mrs. Hawthorne retired from C&P Telephone with 20 years of service. The family received friends on Thursday, Oct. 25. Graveside service was Thursday, Oct. 25, at Westhampton Memorial Park.   • Kiah Steptoe, 88, Bedford

    Kiah Steptoe, age 88, departed this life on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home in Bedford. He was son of the late John and Hezzie Steptoe.

    In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Butler Steptoe and son, Calvin Steptoe.

    He is survived by three daughters, Mary F. Steptoe of Lynchburg, Elizabeth (Thomas) Moon of Bedford, and Peggy Steptoe of Thaxton; three grandchildren, April, Tiffany, and Drew; a devoted nephew, Jack (Gloria) Steptoe of Los Angeles, CA, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
