        Mary Price Sowards, 78, of Bedford, died Friday, June 22, 2012.  She was  born in Bland County on June 17, 1934 a daughter of the late Arthur W. Price and Minnie Miller Price. 
        She was retired from Rubatex.
        In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 5 sisters.

  • Rufus D. Orange, Sr., 64, Bedford

        Rufus Dwight Orange, Sr., 64, of Bedford, died Thursday, June 21, 2012 at his residence.  He was born Feb. 16, 1948 in Bedford County a son of Irene Overstreet Orange and Rufus Cosby Orange.
        Rufus was a U.S. Army veteran.  He loved hunting, fishing and being around people.

  • James W. Williams, 42, Montvale

        James “Jimmy” Wayne Williams, 42, of Montvale, died Sunday, June 3, 2012 as a result of an automobile accident.  He was born March 13, 1970 in Mobile, AL, a son of Lester Alan Williams of New Hampshire and the late Mary Jo Fleenor Quist.
        Jimmy enjoyed working on cars and boating.
        In addition to his mother, Jimmy was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Beth Williams.

  • Merriman C. Witt, 90, Bedford

        Merriman Carlton Witt, 90 of Bedford, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012 at his residence. He was born on Sunday, Dec.11, 1921 in Bedford County, a son of the late John Clayton Witt and Myrtha Martin Witt. He was also preceded in death by a son, Kenny “Dash” Witt.
        He was a retired employee of the Lane Company and member of Ephesus United Methodist Church. He was also a World War II U. S. Army veteran participating in the 3rd wave of the D Day Normandy Invasion.

  • Grady E. Sumner, Sr., 86, Bedford

        Grady Earl Sumner, Sr., 86 of Bedford, passed away Monday, June 4, 2012 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was born on Friday, Dec.18, 1925 in Bedford County, a son of the late Buford Marshall Sumner and Estelle Gillaspie Sumner.
        He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mirta Overstreet Sumner and a son, Kenneth D. Sumner.
        He was a retired employee of Rubatex Corporation. He was U. S. Navy Veteran having served in World War II.

  • William E. Lloyd, 56, Bedford

        William E. Lloyd (Chandler) age 56,of Bedford, passed away on May 31st after a brief illness with cancer.
        He is survived by his daughter, Ranee Lloyd-Hoss, husband Gregory, grandson Bodi and Dalton of North Hills, Texas, sister Vicki Chandler of Rocky Mount, his twin brother Chuck Lloyd of Bedford, his brother, John Lloyd, wife Darlene of Bedford, his nephews Matthew Ader and wife Kristy of Chesapeake, David Lloyd and wife, Jackie of Fort Polk, LA., his grandnephews Austin and Connor, and grandnieces Alysa and Morgan.

        Jean Mosier Maye Lane of Hardy, passed away, Monday, May 28, 2012 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born July 28, 1930 in Sumter, SC; she was a daughter of the late Eugene Tarleton Mosier and Beulah Way Mosier Avinger.

  • Warren H. Updike, 87, Bedford

        Warren Holmes “Pudden” Updike, 87, of Bedford died peacefully on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at the Elks National Home. He was born on June 24, 1924 in Moneta, son of the late Warren Livingston Updike and Lula Roberts Updike.
        In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wray Holland Updike, his brother, Edwin Ashby Updike, a sister, Hilda Updike Ayers,  and a son-in-law, James Ray “Jim” Melton.

  • John A. Key, 88, Bedford

        John Andrew Key, 88, of Bedford, went to meet his savior Jesus Christ, Mon., May 14, 2012, in Lynchburg General Hospital.  He was born in Bedford County on June 18, 1923. 
        John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Julia Dye “Judy” Key, a daughter, Pamela Rose Key Undercoffer and an infant son, John Anston Key; a granddaughter, Brenda Gale Karnes.

  • Carey D. Fizer, 62, Montvale

        Carey Donald Fizer, 62, of Montvale, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on Thursday, Sept. 8, 1949 in Bedford County, the son of the late Alfred C. Fizer.
        He was a retired equipment operator for the U.S. Park Service and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Walnut Grove Union Church. He is a proud Harley Davidson owner. He and his wife were both members of the C.M.A. motorcycle group. He loved spending time with his favorite hunting buddy, Jared.
