  • William L. Jacobs, 83, Chamblissburg

        William Laury (Bill) Jacobs, 83, of Chamblissburg, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 30, 2012.  He was born on Sept. 22, 1928, in the City of Roanoke.  He was preceded in death by his wife and love of his life, Joann Patsel Jacobs; his father, William Laury Jacobs; his mother, Edna Mae Jacobs; his brothers, Cecil Howard Jacobs and Fred Hugh Jacobs

  • Junior F. Goff, 64, Bedford

        Junior Francis Goff, 64 of Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at V.A. Medical Center. He was a son of the late Charlie A.Goff and Mary Hogan Goff.
        He is survived by three brothers and two sisters.
        A funeral service was conducted on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 7 p.m. Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Interment followed in Rapps Mill Cemetery, Lexington on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 11 a.m.

  • William C. Goff, Sr., 84, Lynch Station

        William Claude Goff, Sr., 84 of Lynch Station, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home. He was a son of the late Fred Goff and Rose Gray Goff.
        He is survived by four sons, William C. Goff, Jr., Randy Goff, Donald Goff, Richard Goff.
        A funeral service was conducted on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 11 a.m. Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston. Interment followed in Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery.

  • Raymond G. Haymaker, 92, Vinton

        Raymond Gould Haymaker, 92, of Vinton, died Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  He was born April 8, 1920 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Minnie Pearl Arritt Haymaker and Albert Marion Haymaker of Covington.
        In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Della Elizabeth Jordan Haymaker; brothers, Otho N. Haymaker and Kenneth G. Haymaker; and a sister, Dorothy M. Haymaker.

  • Sue A. Dick, 79, Bedford

        Sue  Ayers Dick, 79 of  Bedford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 1933 in Bedford, a daughter of the late William Herbert Ayers and Lillie Florence Bragg Ayers.

  • Bonita L. Cyrlin, 58, Bedford

        Bonita Lynn “Bonnie” Cyrlin, 58, of Bedford, died Sunday, May 27, 2012.  But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.  Isaiah 40: 31   She was born in Trenton, NJ on June 5, 1953.  
        She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Allen Cyrlin.
        Bonnie was a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service.

  • Allen W. Arthur, 87, Greenwood, DE

        Allen Ward Arthur, 87, Greenwood, Delaware, formerly of Huddleston,  passed into eternal peace on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 after a brief hospital stay.
        He was born in Huddleston, on Aug. 18, 1924 and attended Huddleston School until his enlistment with the Army Air Corp.

  • James W. Gregg, 89, Roanoke

        James Wallace Gregg, 89, of Roanoke and formerly of Bedford, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Friendship Health and Rehabilitation. Born Feb. 7, 1923 in Richmond; he was a son of the late Robert H. Gregg and Eunice Lankford Gregg.
        James was a member of Bedford Presbyterian Church and a former employee of Piedmont Label. James was a proud veteran having served this country in the United States Navy. He loved woodworking and furniture. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge and American Legion.

        Beatrice Hofman Dowdy, 60 of Bedford, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2012.

  • Elizabeth O. Baird, Fairfax

        Elizabeth Rucker Overstreet Baird, formerly of Bedford and longtime resident of Fairfax, passed away May 17, 2012 at the age of 101 at Fairfax Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Alfred Baird and three brothers, all of Bedford.
        She is survived by five children, A.C., Eleanor, David, Samuel and Margaret and their spouses; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and numerous loved relatives and friends.
