Nancy Anders Turner, 66, of Bedford, formerly of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012 after a lengthy illness.
Born on Jan. 3, 1946 in Roanoke, she was the daughter of Robert Curtis Anders and Virginia Thomas Anders. Nancy graduated from Pikeville High School, Pikeville, KY and attended Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY and National Business College in Roanoke.
She worked for 20 years at Carilion Clinic, retiring as Payroll Manager.

D. Joyce Detamore, 66, of Bedford, died Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born on Nov. 25, 1945 she was the daughter of the late Arlie Elmer Mullins and Beatrice Mullins.
In addition to her father, Joyce was preceded in death by two granddaughters and a great-granddaughter.
She was a member of Lighthouse Free Will Baptist Church in Bedford. Joyce was the owner and operator of Joyce’s Beauty Salon where she dedicated 30 years of service to her devoted clients.

    A few weeks ago a fellow stopped by and handed me three sheets of paper which appeared to be the contents of an e-mail that he printed. The source seems to be a Web site called askmarion. I located an article at http://askmarion.wordpress.com/2011/05/03/dhimmitude-on-page-107-of-obam... . It was about “dhimmitude” and its contents closely, but not precisely, match the wording of what I was given.

Mary Virginia Woodford Spradlin, 94, of Altavista, died Monday, May 21, 2012 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was born Nov. 23, 1917 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Ella Catherine Wood Woodford and Joel Shepherd Woodford. She was the last of thirteen children surviving.
Mary was a member of Ephesus United Methodist Church. She was employed at Rubatex Corp. for over 20 years.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John Aubrey Spradlin.
