  • Clifford A. Wilson, 52, Farmville

        Clifford Arthur Wilson, 52, of Farmville, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital.  He was born May 25, 1958 in Yonkers, New York, a son of Harold Brian Wilson and Hazel Martinson Wilson.

        He is survived by his son Andrew Wilson of Bedford, and significant other, Rita Martin of Appomattox.
        Private services at a later date by the family.

  • Owen A. Saunders, 90, Bedford

        Owen A. Saunders, 90, of Bedford died Monday, April 18, 2011. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Lovely Zion Baptist Church, Bedford. Interment will follow in the Western Light Baptist Church cemetery, Bedford. Friends may call the funeral home after  noon on Friday, April 22, 2011.

  • Margaret D. Lee, 82, Midlothian

        Margaret Dancy Lee, 82, formerly of Madison Heights, and prior to there, Bedford, died Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the home of her son in Midlothian. She was the wife of the late William Nowlin Lee.

        Born Oct. 9, 1928, she was the daughter of the late William Hamilton Dancy, Sr. and Edith Hawes Dancy and was also preceded in death by one son, William Dancy Lee; three brothers, William Hamilton Dancy, Jr., James Edward Dancy, and Julian Hawes Dancy and two sisters, Martha Elizabeth Dancy Street and Dorothy Ann Dancy Driskill.

  • Evelyn W. Bowyer, 99, Bedford

        Evelyn Anderson Waldron Bowyer, 99, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Carriage Hill Retirement Home. She was born on Tuesday, May 2, 1911 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Robert Melvin Anderson and Octavia Virginia Overstreet Anderson. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Holbert Waldron and James Bowyer; three brothers, Raymond, Tommy and James Anderson and four sisters, Lala Lindsey, Bertha Nester, Mary Scruggs and Katie Martin. She was a member of Union United Methodist Church.

  • James C. Witt, 81, Bedford

    James Calvin Witt, 81 of Bedford, passed away Monday, April 11, 2011 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on Tuesday, May 21, 1929 in Bedford County, a son of the late James Corbitt Witt and Ethal Ferrell Witt.
    He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jane Carol Witt and daughter, Debra Witt Pugh as well as his grandson, Daniel Rice, and two sisters, Doris Davidson and Clara Trail.
    He was a self-employed building contractor for many years and was a member of the Bedford Moose Lodge # 1897 for fifty years and of the U. S. Army National Guard from 1944 until 1947.

  • Robin M. Oldham, 49, Bedford

    Robin Mayhew Oldham age 49, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 9, 2011. She was born in Bethesda, Maryland on April 15, 1961, daughter of Harriett Weixler Mayhew, and the late Wallace Rucker Mayhew.
    Robin spent the better part of her life in Bedford, where she was a former employee of Rubatex and most recently, Walmart. She attended Bedrock Community Church. Robin’s deep faith in the Lord was evident to all of her friends and family because of her caring and nurturing way.

  • Mary B. Dean, 88, Bedford

    Mary Burks Dean, 88, of Bedford died Friday, April 8, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born in Bedford County June 6, 1922, a daughter of the late Frank Wellington Burks and Sallie Wheat Burks.
    Mrs. Dean was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, a resident of the Elks National Home and was an avid golfer. She retired from Rubatex Corp. as Purchasing Agent with over 35 years of service.

    On Feb. 19, 2011, Thelma Storms, age 82, passed away at Beth Israel Medical Center – Kings Highway in Brooklyn, New York.

  • Andrew L. Croft, 83, NC

    Mr. Andrew Lee Croft died Monday, April 4, 2011 at St. Joseph of the Pines Health Center at the age of 83.
    Mr. Croft was born in Bedford, on Feb. 2, 1928 to the late Roy S. Croft and Mabel Cross Croft. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Sam Croft, Hal Croft, and Mack Croft; and two sisters, Jo Milton, and Jane Arthur. He served in the US Navy during WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War. He retired with the NC Dept. of Corrections as a Sgt. in the early 90’s.
