  • David L. Cash, 48, Moneta

        David Lee Cash, 48, of Moneta, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at his residence.  Born Tuesday, Jan. 2, 1962 in Santa Anna, CA, he was a son of Mildred Ann Edwards Cash Browning and the late Kenneth Lee Cash.

        He was retired from John Hancock Insurance where he was a Telemarketer.  David had a passion for rabbit hunting, loved fishing, and raising dogs.

        In addition to his father, David was preceded in death by a sister, Penny Lane.

  • Joshua H. Stroop, 18, Moneta

    Joshua Hamilton “Stroop Dogg” Stroop, 18, of Moneta, died Saturday, July 10, 2010.  He was born in Richmond on July 26, 1991 a son of  Jonny Stroop and Terry Lynn Hamilton Stroop. 

        In addition to his mother and father he is survived by his brothers and sisters, Little Jonny, Amanda, Samantha, Stephanie, Tori Lynn, Jacob Clayton Stroop and Chris Cox; his grandparents, Mary and Herbert Hamilton and Phyllis Stroop; many friends, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and a niece.

  • Ann Watson Luther Phillippe, 82, of Bedford died July 12, 2010 in Lynchburg General Hospital. Born Jan. 15, 1928 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Marguerite Watson Luther and James Harvey Luther.

  • Otis C. Marshall, 60, Blue Ridge

        Otis Cecil “Chuck” Marshall, 60, of Blue Ridge, died Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Bedford Memorial Hospital.  He was born in Bedford County on Aug. 28, 1949 a son of the late, Otis Clarence Marshall and Laurice Jane Gibbs Marshall.

        Otis was employed with Virginia Transformer. 

  • Ray J. Huddleston, 92, Moneta

        Ray J. (Buster) Huddleston, 92, of Moneta, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010. He was born Feb. 8, 1918 to Henry and Hester Huddleston.

        He retired from DuPont in Richmond, after more than 30 years. He then moved back to his home place where he grew up. He was a faithful member of Beaverdam Baptist Church.

        He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Viola Huddleston; twin sister, Faye H. Willis; the rest of his brothers and sisters; and two nephews, Mac (Mickey) Johnson and Stewart Huddleston.

  • Garland E. Johnson, Jr., 71, Bedford

        Garland Edward (Ed) Johnson, Jr., 71 of Bedford, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010 at his residence. Ed was born on Wednesday, March 1, 1939 in Bedford Co., a son of the late Garland Edward Johnson Sr. and Marie Bower Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a step-grandson, Andy Mutter.

        Ed served his country in the Army National Guard Reserves from 1858 - 1964.

  • Virginia D. Greenway, 61, Bedford

        Virginia Myers Diane Greenway, 61 of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was a daughter of the late James K. Thornhill and Vivian June Myers.

        She is survived by 2 sons; Troy D. Greenway and Robert W. Greenway; 5 Brothers; 2 Sisters.

        A funeral service was conducted on Monday July 12, 2010 at Updike Funeral Chapel.     Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

  • Maymie M. Jensen, 89, Bedford

        Maymie Wysor McGinnis Jensen, 89, of Bedford died Sunday, July 11, 2010 at her residence. She was born in Bland County on April 7, 1921 a daughter of the late Henry Harrison McGinnis and Bertha Maude Bruce McGinnis. 

        Maymie was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church. 

        In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother. 

  • Tony R. Karnes, 47, Bedford

        Tony Ray Karnes, 47, of Bedford, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010 at his home. He was born on Thursday, April 18, 1963 in Bedford, a son of William Ray Karnes and Mae Cheek Karnes of Bedford.

        He was a caregiver at the Central Virginia Community Services Longwood Group Home and was a member of Tinity Baptist Church.

  • Marjorie Wieland-Tucker, 52, VT

        Marjorie Wieland-Tucker of Swanton, VT died at the age of 52 on July 7, 2010, in the Vermont Respite House in Williston, VT after a two year struggle with ovarian cancer.  She was born on July 3, 1958, in Washington, DC to Marie and Charles Wieland. Marjorie grew up in Maryland before moving to Virginia in 1978. Later she also resided in Golden, CO and Montreal, Canada before settling in Swanton, VT in 2007.
