        Mary Frances Wilson Wilson, 72, of Ocala, FL formerly of Forest, died Saturday, April 10, 2010.  Born Aug. 23, 1938 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Comer and Rosa Wilson.  In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Powers. 

  • Orion A. Carter, 89, Moneta

        Orion Ampson Carter, 89, of Moneta, died Sunday, April 4, 2010.  He was born in Pittsylvania County on Oct. 30, 1920, a son of the late Walter Carter and Hallie Robertson Carter.  He was retired from Rubatex with 43 years of service. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Gertrude Spradlin Carter. 

  • Clara P. Gill, 81, Danville

        Clara Proctor Gill, age 81, of 112 Layton Avenue, Danville, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, March 29, 2010 at her residence after several months of declining health.

  • Kevin W. Hawkins, 42, Bedford

        Kevin William Hawkins, 42, of Bedford, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010. He was born on Monday, Oct. 23, 1967 in Bedford, a son of the late Travis William Hawkins and Joyce Creasey Hawkins. In addition to his Father, Travis W. Hawkins, he was also preceded in death by his Paternal Grandfather, J.W. Hawkins and his Maternal Grandparents, Samuel and Nellie Creasey. He was a member of Mentow Baptist Church, and a U.S. Navy Veteran.

  • Evelyn M. Falls, 86, Lynchburg

        Evelyn Manley Falls, 86, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, April 1, 2010. She was the wife of the late Lawrence Alton Falls.

        Evelyn was born in Bedford County Jan. 29, 1924, a daughter of the late Felix M. Manley and the late Ida Ann Arthur Manley. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Felix Ohara Manley, William Brown Manley, and Fred Lloyd Manley; one sister, Helen Manley Burford.

  • Margaret ‘Tess’ Fullerton, 75

        Margaret ‘Tess‘ Brown Markham Fullerton, 75, went to sing in God’s choir on March 30, 2010. Tess died after a brief battle with cancer.

        A Memorial Service will be held on April 10 at 2 p.m. at Blue Ridge Baptist Church, 2410 Hardy Road, Vinton. Pastor Koger will officiate. Family will receive visitors from 12 to 2 prior to the service.

  • Thurman A. Harris, 98, Bedford

        Thurman Alfred Harris, 98, born July 23, 1911, in Indian Valley, Floyd County, went to be with the Lord March 31, 2010 at his daughter’s home in Bedford.  He was predeceased by his wife of 76 years, Lettie Marie; a daughter, Mary Lou; a daughter-in-law,  Opal Harris; son-in-law, Larry Fenzel;  parents, Simon and Reona Smith Harris; and step-mother Miranda Slusher Harris.

  • Sergeant Major Felix T. Jackson, 68, Forest

        Sergeant Major Felix Thomas Jackson, 68, of Forest, died on Friday, April 2, 2010.  Born March 21, 1942, in North Carolina, he was the son of the late Alice Belle Pearson Jackson and Ralph Brantley Jackson.

  • Boyd Ruff, 86, Bedford

        Boyd Ruff, 86, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on Friday, May 4, 1923 in Bedford Co., a son of the late Burks Lee Ruff and Bessie D. Craddock.

  • Kathleen W. Dooley, 78, Bedford

        Kathleen “Kitty” Gladys Wheeler Dooley, 78, of Bedford died Saturday, March 27, 2010.  She was born Feb. 24, 1932, in Roanoke County, a daughter of the late John Edward Wheeler and Gladys Callahan Wheeler. Kitty loved to play bingo and played whenever she could and she loved seeing her friends at her many yard sales.  She was a retired employee of The Print Shop and a member Epworth United Methodist Church and the Women of the Moose.
